« on: August 07, 2014, 06:19:40 pm »
I bought my gti with a 6 months rac gold warranty and my rear brake caliper is sticking!
Anyone know if i can claim on the warranty for a caliper?
And how do i make a claim? do i go through the garage i bought it from or just deal with the rac?

I have 12 months RAC warranty on my car and came in handy when my engine failed and needed replacing after 3 months of having the car. I also used it when my drivers side spring had snapped.

On both occasions i took it to the garage and left them the RAC book and they sorted as RAC will need full details on fault and diagnostics etc.

Whether they would cover the caliper I am not sure but the rule of thumb should be if not faulty due to wear and tear it should be covered by them.

cheers for the reply mate, so you left it to the garage to deal with the rac?
its just the garage i purchased it from is around an hour away from me so would prefer to use a local garage, but would they be able to deal with the rac instead of where i bought it from?
sorry for all the questions im just unsure of where i stand and where to start when it comes to making a warranty claim  :scared:

Bought my Golf October 2013 which came with 6 months RAC warranty and made a claim in Jan 2014 for a new steering rack. If it wasn't for the garage REALLY wanting the business and tenaciously chasing the claim through the warranty company i doubt it would have been approved.

All i will say is stand your ground.

Hever had RAC warranty but have claimed on several others and never once had an issue. There is often small print though that means the car must have full service history - not always straight forward if the car was sold with the warranty but without fully documented service history prior to your ownership. Not sure how they would fair in that instance.

Good stuff. Most also exclude brakes and exhaust but as its the caliper (not a service part such as disc / pad) should be fine.

Do you have a booklet on the RAC waranty you could check or an online guide to the level of cover you have? They normally list what covered, or if its an exclusion warranty, whats not covered.
