Had a v similar experience wrt the fuel pump cam follower, at vw main dealer on the Wirral.
What is that? Why would you want to change it? Never heard of any problems, and had never sold the parts to anyone else!

Is it some sort of plausible deniability/emperors new clothes type strategy on behalf of vw? Are there just too many numptys employed?

People still knock the 70's British Leyland mentality of letting customers develop/beta_test your products for you...it is obvious that VAG have been doing a similar thing for years.

I don't think its VW denying stuff, more just dealers employing people who aren't particularly knowledgeable! Ok for basic routine servicing and warranty work when there's a TPI to follow, but nothing more complex.

Iv just had to near enough justify buying rear brake dust shields off Audi (got a set of S3 rears to fit) in Cheshire Oaks as I couldn't supply a reg number for a car. I supplied the part number and the guy got high and mighty cause I described it as a dust sheild - it's called something else officially but FFS

Cover plate for brake disc.  :happy2:
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

It makes a massive difference when you find a decent parts guy from someone who always needs the correct name / number and chassis number!!
Different companies call them different things too so if he is more familiar with other makes he will call it a dump valve or re-circ valve.

It's just below the turbo. You can get to it by taking the wheel and arch lining off, then it's just above the drive shaft. Just swapped mine, not too bad a job really. Not sure it's fixed my problem though  :sad1:

Volkswagen Agnew Boucher  in Belfast were the same last week when I went to the parts department to as for a quote for PCV and DV. They had no idea about the part and then the technician came out from the back and agreed that I was probably wrong.

After explaining these forums suggested it (and after VCDS said my pcv was faulty) they chuckled at the forums folk as if we are the idiots who know nothing...

Oh well, off to TPS for me. Got my quote very quickly for all parts. Very impressed.  :booty:

Forget the diverter valve, just got a call from them saying I need both draft shafts replacing costing over £550! On top of that I need new pads and discs, which I was aware about as it had it's MOT a few weeks a go and that was flagged up. So I'm pretty bummed out about this £139 service costing me over £1K!  :scared:

On the up side, they're updating my RNS 510 firmware for £25  :signLOL:
