VW Dealers have never heard of a 'diverter valve'
« on: August 07, 2014, 08:30:22 pm »
My car is booked in for a service next week a the VW dealers in St. Albans. I asked them if they would check the diverter valve as it's quite a common issue to have leaks and what not in the MK5 GTI. But instead of hearing "yes of course", they said "sorry, we have never heard of a diverter valve, and neither has <MALE NAME HERE> who has worked with VW for over 20 years.

Why is there confusion about this?  :signLOL:

They were not joking around at all, honestly!
I'll just wait until I take it in on Thursday and mention it to them then, then if they still act oblivious to it I'll show them a photo of it haha. I'm feeling lik ena upgrade to the revision D or G

I explained what it was, and that they have newer versions of it to replace it with, but that was when they brought out the "20 years of VW experience" card  :signLOL:

I suspect the problem here is  because ETKA calls it a 'cut-off valve' not a 'diverter valve'.

Diverter valve is not the actual name for the part . It is known as pressure release vavle or divert air valve ( if someone is too particular )

I was just in with VW this afternoon asking the same thing. Gave the guy a part number without the name and he said oh yeah you're diverted valve!!! He said he knew it off by heart along with PCV as they're so common!

On a lesser note I was then quoted €175 to turn off my airbag light

I had *exactly* the same experience at the very same dealership a few months ago! Went in and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about and made out I was some kind of idiot. Total bunch of morons at that place.

Had the work done by these guys instead who are just a few miles away - http://www.marktempestautocentre.co.uk/ . Did a good job and fair price.

Oh dear.. I rung mar tempest but their minor service was more expensive, but their major was cheaper. I however need a minor, so striked them out. Having second thoughts now  :signLOL:
