Possible new owner needs some advice
« on: August 08, 2014, 09:56:08 pm »
Hi all

I'm just in the process of getting a GTi and I've just test driven one near me.  Now I need some advice!

The car is the ideal spec for me, blue, manual, 5 door.  Its done 96k but single owner and full VW service history inc new cambelt, water pump done at right times.  The car drives really nicely and everything I tried seemed to work, no accident damage and clear on HPI,  but here are some of the points I need some advice on.

1.  Its badly rusted over the front arches.  This will be rectified before sale but is it likely to reoccur (not getting new wings but repaired and repainted)?
2.  Its a bit rusty around the rear badge.  How much to is this likely to be to repair?
3.  The drivers bolster has a 1 cm wear/hole, again how much to repair or does it need a new seat cover (how much for that?)
4.  It comes with the RCD300 and no multi CD so whats the easiest way to be able to listen to Ipod?  Easiest not cheapest, not a fan of car DIY!!

My gut feeling is the car is honest but a bit tatty, its at £5300 with the arches redone?  Reasonable deal or should I be running for the hills

1.  IT WILL NEED NEW WINGS ON AS THE RUST WILL COME BACK
2.  NOT SURE ON COST BUT TRY KNOCK ABIT OF THE ASKING PRICE
3. CAN BE REPAIRED BY A UPHOLSTERY
4.Can  retro fitted

oops sorry for the capitals

Had a think on this overnight and I think its not the car for me.  Reading lots of stuff in here makes me think that its better to wait for a really good one in my ideal spec to come up

For the iPod solution look into a "connects2" kit. They are around £30 and let you control the iPod through the RCD300's buttons  :happy2:

Price sounds about right and if its had stuff like the belt done recently thats a good sign. What year is the car?
