I have the Ed30 Milltek Resonated Turbo back exhaust which has been on the car just over a year.


Just to highlight a point.........

Modifications in many not all cases are not as well developed as OEM fit items (time and/or money dictates this fact)  Dave B and I were talking about aircraft Mods this week, if we fit a Modification, we have to draw up an inspection regime, and usually this takes the form of more frequent and detailed examinations, until we get enough data to form a regime that will mitigate against failure.

The worrying aspect of this fault, and again hats off to Milltek for their response, is the age of the exhaust, and time to failure.

We can surmise poor fit, poor quality etc.  But it just illustrates that an increased inspection regime is required.  Mods, in most cases are not just fit and forget.  Mods also have a cumulative effect, by that I mean that one set of Mods will be more comfortable together, than another.  Eg a hard suspensioned car will transfer loading to other areas, or a set of engine mounts will aid the exhaust, and restrict engine movement and therefore give the flexi etc and easier time.

This is why Milltek will often honour their warranty beyond their formal period and also why cars get invited to their works at Derby for full inspection and analysis before repair/replacement as appropriate. Of course each case is individual and Milltek aren't going to put up with someone just trying to take advantage - Nor should they.

Milltek are continually keen to monitor their products and make improvements - My own car is testament to that process.

For those who don't already know, I don't work for Milltek - They support my car and I support their efforts and we have become good friends.

Dave's advice is spot on - Whether on a ramp at my VW dealer's, VWR, JKM, or anywhere else, I always take the opportunity to check the whole underside of my car and ask the guys to do so with their more experienced eye. We'd all prefer our mods to be fit'n forget but it's again as the balloonist says, it's the dynamic of the whole package.

My APR did a similar thing!

Just reminded myself that you have the APR RSC system.

Where exactly was it blown?

Did you have to replace it and did Awesome change it under warranty?

It's a worry other's have blown here including Milltek.

I assume you could here it blowing on tick over?

It was blowing just after the flexi, where the two sections bolt together. I didn't get it done at Awesome because I'm located in Berkshire/Surrey. I got it done at Tuningwerkes. They sorted it all out for me yep.

Could not hear it blowing nope. The only way I found out was because my engine check light came on, with the fault code reading the post cat lambda probe. So we had a look at the car up on the ramps and could see a darkened patch around the bolt.

well its all fixed now - pic of offending pipe with blown flexi metal bit





normal boost has been resumed, my gauge was fluttering at idal and in 4th gear pulls i was spiking then dropping right down and then spiking again this has now has become stable - cant believe what a detrimental effect a blown exhaaust has on performance - only downside is how quiet the car is now  :sad1:

GTI Edition 30 - Reflex Silver now gone but not forgotten - Cooper S JCW now.

There is no getting away from the fact that the flexi is to short - compare it to the OEM.

blueflame flexi and oem as you say is much longer.

The shorter flexi on the milltek does appear to be its weak point

Yeah I hope its just blown itself apart at a joint as its only been on the car since February! The joints were tacked when we put it on but you never know it may have come apart! :scared:
