Have I missed any service items?
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:13:34 pm »
It's time for my gti to be serviced and this is my first service for this car and I like to do everything on my first service when I get a new car and il be doing it myself so can you think of anything I might have missed?

Millers 5w40 nano oil
Oil filter
Air filter
Fuel filter
Pollen filter
Cam follower
Sump bolt/washer
4 spark plugs
Oil pick up pipe
Oil pick up seal

I recently changed the DV so that's all good and I've checked the PCV and that seems fine, I know stuff like the oil pick up isn't really a service item but after the story's I'd rather change it now and have peace of mind.  Also can anyone recommend some sump gasket paste? Or do vag use a gasket instead of paste?

Cheers guys  :happy2:

Decent service that.

Pm me your address I have some leftover oem vag liquid gasket.  Otherwise I can at least give you the part number.

When was the last brake fluid flush?

Whats this about pick up pipe problems?
And is cam follower a reasonably cheap/easy job to do?

Thanks for the offer  :happy2: don't want to hassle you so if you have the part number handy I'd appreciate it very much, thanks.

Yeah I've got the brake fluid in mind, going to do it when I get vag com or Vcds I think it's new name so I can change it fully including the abs pump.

Have a search their is a few story's of the pick up in the sump getting blocked and losing oil pressure. There's a good guide on YouTube for the cam follower, it easy as long as you don't have the banjo bolt on the pump otherwise it's easy hardest part for me is removing the airbox ha such a pig to remove carefully or other wise they crack easy.

I suppose it can vary depending on the use and how well the car is looked after.  Mine has Donne 72k and my oil pick up pipe was like new.  I've read on here that one at 80k was really clogged up which brought on the oil pressure light.

My oil pick up pipe blocked at around 116k. You dont need a new pipe, it is all metal and can be cleaned easily with brake cleaner and an air line.
