Just started the soundproofing. The first piece is on, but it's very dark outside so I'll leave the rest til the weekend!

I've started with the bonnet since a lot of the noise comes from the engine, so took the fibre soundprofing off to start with:

and put the first piece of sound deadening mat on:

I hope to make better progress at the weekend!!

Sound deadening is going on quite well now I've completed the bonnet:

The original soundproofing is now back on as well.

The boot floor was cleaned and stripped of the original loose sound deadening mat (what little there was):

Then I covered the wheel well:

And finally finished the whole boot floor:

First impressions are that it is doing a good job. The noise from the exhaust has gone and the engine is very slightly quieter. The rear end of the car is pretty quiet now with the front tyres producing half the noise and the engine the other half through the bulkhead. I've got shed loads of sound proofing so I'll be doing the doors next then the bulkhead and floor. After that I'll move on to the rear quarters and finally the roof. Should be pretty quiet when I finished

I've also been shopping and this arrived today:

Just got to get them fitted now

I've got a few more big goodies coming but you'll have to wait for them  :happy2:

Snap eh?!

Dunno about fitting them. I've got to drive the following over the next few days: Manchester to Leeds to Newcastle to Leeds to Bournemouth to Leeds to Manchester to Leeds to Portsmouth and back to Leeds. That's going to be tough!
Hopefully they'll be fitted by next weekend though so you might just beat me  :happy2:

My springs are being fitted on Tuesday.

Posty brought me a couple of parcels today. One was a new pair of Bosch front Wipers which I have now fitted.  So much better than the cheapos I had before!

Parcel number 2 is this thing:

I'm undecided about whether to fix it up and fit it or send it back though as the quality is rather poor  :sad1:

Sorry to hear Garth, that obviously wasn't what you wanted!

Is it an ebay jobby? I assume it's some sort of R32 bumper, surely that's a replica or was it listed as OEM/Gen?
I'd deffo be on the prowl for my money back on that one!  :fighting:

Springs might be Sunday if I'm lucky, if not next Sunday so we'll have to post up pics and compare! I'm buzzing  :jumpmove:

Yeah, it's an ebay job and I knew it wasn't genuine. It looked too good to be true as it was described as 'plug and play' and 'perfect fit'. To be honest if I can find the time, I could make it fit and it will still look good after some adjustments.

I'm going to do a trial fitting either tonight or tomorrow and depending on how that goes, I'll either keep it of send it back... fingers crossed!

My springs are being fitted tomorrow, so am I beating you to it?  :P

They'll be photos of a very dirty car I'm afraid!

I went away for the weekend in my other car and on Sat I had builders replacing some lintels. When I got back, the golf was covered (both sides and roof!) in cement splatter. I need to be careful when I wash it that I don't do more harm  :sad1:

:signLOL: I think you will win safely fella.
How did fitting go with the bumper? There is a company that does these for an ok cost, away from ebay that is. I did a thread on it about 5/6 months ago, check it out - may be of use.

So when do we see pics of the drop'ness?  This will most definitely get my mouth watering as I've got the painful wait till Sunday!  :popcornsoda:

Well the car is still at the garage. They have had to order some new top mounts as it looks like the old ones are shot. This apparently is what the noise has been and nothing at all to do with the springs. VW just told me a bunch of porkies and the springs weren't broken at all. I'll be taking the original springs down to the VW dealer to let them show me exactly how 'broken' they are!

Oh and pics MAY follow tonight if I get the car back when it's still light  :happy2:

I haven't had time to look at the bumper yet, it's still sitting in the garage where it will no doubt remain until this weekend.
Cheers for the info pete  :drinking:

That's okay chief. It may not help at all tbh, but worth a look?

So where are these pics?  :popcornsoda:

Looks good for Sunday for my fitting to commence.
That thread isn't fantastically detailed btw, but if it helps then great  :happy2:

Sorry, things are pretty busy at the moment. I got the springs fitted then drove straight down to Portsmouth and back... Nice 550 mile test drive!

I can't believe how much the handling has changed, it's so much better. There's now very little wheelspin out of corners whereas before it used to scrabble about all over the place. The comfort is better on normal roads at normal speeds but flying down the motorway when the surace isn't great, you do bounce about slightly more than before. I'm very happy with them though

I haven't had time to wash the car or do anything with it since Tuesday (I have put another thousand miles on the clock though!) so this was taken out the window this morning:

You'll have to wait til Sunday for a clean car and better photos  :happy2:
