Lacking performance

Some help if anyone can please.
I have a standard 05 mk5 gti. A great car that I really enjoy with the only complaint being that perhaps it could have more grunt. I am considering a remap however I drove my cousins "new" 2007 tt yesterday. It's also the fwd 2.0tfsi and it feels a lot stronger. It is 40k miles younger but there was a noticeable question.
The golf is my daily car and most of my time/tinkering goes on the corrado but I wondered if there is anything I should be checking or replacing before going for a remap. I have seen some talk about diverted valves etc but I have still to look into this.
Had the coil packs done not long ago under warranty so they should be good.
Any words of wisdom?

Sounds like the DV mate, common problem and if you've never checked it before, would be fairly sure that's it.

If it's lacking power diverter valve is the first place to check, for the sake of a £40 part you can lose a good 30 bhp+, if it's never been done it's worth replacing/ updating anyways because after the map you'll have more boost which can kill of a dying one very quickly, but the remap transforms the car completely and it's a different animal afterwards.

Ok so I'll get on a diverter valve then. Next question is rev g for the noise or the latest rev d according to the link? Or should I be checking with vw for my car? Ideally don't want to use vw though so any clues as to where best to purchase? Ecp for instance?

I recently went to my local TPS for a revision G it was £33+Vat so not bad at all

Rev G, end off.

As mentioned get one from TPS or they sell on eBay.

Rev "G"  i would go for, all though some people think that the rev "D" is better on ko3 cars as it's located on the turbo and the heat from the turbo is weakening the diaphragm.

You pay your money and takes your choice.

TPS or some reasonable prices on ebay

There is a tps in glasgow so will try them tomorrow as I want to get it changed now ASAP! I have vw dealers closer so might try them too for ease in case they have them in stock.
Should I be getting Pcv at the same time so that  I cover all bases?

Not unless you've got idling issuses, i wouldn't

When idling it does seem to almost "hunt" if that makes sense??

Try the dipstick test as in the link, it's not fool proof but might give you an indication

For the price of it might be worth getting it changed

Hi guys, sorry for the thread hijack here. I have the same issue with my 120d, feels slow as cr@p, struggles on hills etc etc.  I've just read the other thread linked on this post here,  done the dipstick/oil cap test on the car (5 mins ago).  There was no difference in the engine idle which ever one I removed. I'm guessing the PCV is shot on the car. No idea about any DV valve issues on the car.

Trouble is, I've already had it back at BMW with a 'sluggish' issue and they said there was nothing wrong with it !!

hey again guys.
this morning I am on the hunt!
Tried VW dealer in Greenock and they have never heard of a diverter valve - great start.
By using some images on google I recon the chap has got the right part.

The original part number he gave me ended in a "d" so I asked if there was another version ending in "g".
He said yes but its not listed for your car.  Can I confirm that they are all interchangeable?  Interesting that the "d" part number was 60 odd quid plus vat and the "g" is £40!
I guess the "d" is the newer revision so probably is listed for all cars.
Anyway I tried TPS after that and because I didn't have a Garage name that was the end of that phone call - "trade only mate" - another dead end.
I am having a fried check out if he can get them if not it will be VW tomorrow.
Can someone confirm this part number for the DV - 06f145710g - I am assuming this is the REV G that I am after.
thanks again so much - can wait to get them fitted!

PS - Im going for the PCV valve too - I took the oil filler of this morning and it got really rough sounding immediately. I perhaps had the cap off for 1 second and could tell it was struggling.
