MK4 R32 Question.. Sorry I know!

Hi Guys,

Apologies for a MK4 question on a MK5 Forum! But I'm asking on behalf of friend.. as I'm not registered on any MK4 forums!!!

My friend has a 2003 R32 and wants to lower it as the rear standard springs have broken.  Question is... Are these a pain to lower?  We are concerned about the camber and haldex issues..

Is there a goto drop that doesn't cause issues?

costs a fair bit to do as the standard shocks will prob not be upto the job so will need some aftermarket ones or the ride will be crap and then you need to have rear tie bars fitted to sort out the geo as the ones on the mk 4 aren't adjustable (these cost another £300) + 4 wheel allignement charges or otherwise he will shred through  a new set of rear tyres in a few 1000 miles

They're not particularly difficult to lower, as said above you'll need adjustable tie bars on the rear and full alignment afterwards. If anything they're easier than most mk4s as they already have an anti roll bar that goes under the driveshaft at the front. Most mk4s get rubbing at about 50mm.

Camber can easily be sorted with adjustable tie bars and you shouldn't have any Haldex issues. Is he looking at springs and shocks or coilovers?

I think he's decided to go with the H & R 20mm spring kit. We've asked a few people and 20mm shouldn't cause any major issues. If he was going lower I'd say the adj rear tie bars where gonna be needed and its only done 50k odd so shocks should be good.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Your friend should have a look on one of the R32 or MK4 forums for ideas or the best advise.

Make sure he gets the alignment done as lots of camber puts extra strain on the rear Diff
