Service book
« on: August 16, 2014, 10:52:24 pm »
When I bought my car it had a duplicate service book, all the receipts from VW and restamped etc so not a problem but it's a very basic book. I will be keeping it of course but wouldn't mind getting a proper service book with more tick boxes and stuff for future services
Does anyone know how much they are or if I ask VW for one will I just get another duplicate book?

I tried, and failed. There are of course ways and means. Ebay has a few that aren't specifically for the golf which are like the standard issue ones....

If you order a new service book on its own it will have duplicate stamped on every page. If you want a service book without duplicate on it the only way to do it is order a complete new book pack (folder, owners manual etc, etc) they ain't cheap and for the MK5 stopped being made a few years ago. I manage to cover my service book in oil and looked into getting a replacement book but didn't want to have duplicate on it but decided for the money I'll live with a dirty book. When I tried finding one I was told that there are 4 book packs at uk VW dealers not sold, but you'd need to talk directly to the dealer that has it on the shelf. Your local dealer can search UK stock and tell you where they are

But will it still be a proper service book with all the tick boxes etc? Just with duplicate stamped on? I hate my basic duplicate book gives you nothing but a stamp.

The age they are now, do you think any future buyer will be impressed too much about some stamps from main dealers that dont have a clue most of the time

Invoice and receipts are massively more important than a service book , you can tick the boxes yourself in the service book for example ! They show exactly what has been done too .

Totally agree! I've seen "replacement" service books on offer on ebay with the seller willing to stamp up the book with dealership stamps

I wonder if you can ask your local dealer if they would do a print out of all the (VW) service history so you can keep that with your book?

I do have the previous receipts from VW for the service history (bar 1 when the book was also lost) and all matches up with the VWSH restamped duplicate book ,but it's a bit lame for future services. Will be doing my very best to keep every receipt anyway.
Thanks for the link will print off a few and use them for the time being  :happy2:
