Highest I've got was 38 stuck at 50 for 12 miles. Everyday I get between 25-32 in my ed30 and I used to get 27-33 in my k03 Gti.

To check dv you need to remove it and inspect manually. There's guides on here for it.

PCV is checked by removing oil cap while engine is running. If it splutters your pcv is fine but if it runs as normal it's gone

I'd stick to pulling the dipstick out instead.

If you are doing a consistent 65mph for the majority of the journeys, you should see at least 30mpg (based on my bog standard ED30).

What tyres do you currently have fitted and what PSI do you fill them to?
What grade of fuel do you use?

Thanks

Rich

My Stage 2 averages 28mpg but taking it easy on the motorway around the legal limit usually returns 35mpg so yes get the MAF and PCV checked.

Always run mine on 98/99 ron fuel

According to VW, the recommended pressure is 37 PSI.
Have you ever had 4 wheel alignment done?

I've just driven 190 motorway miles from Cheshire to Somerset at 70mph with cruise, and 50mph with cruise through roadworks. 1 passenger and bit of luggage, I got 37.4mpg  :happy2:

My old K03 GTI would have done around 39mpg on that journey I think  :ashamed:

Look in the how to guides section for PCV test and it's shown clearly but here's what I checked last night.

Turn engine on and sit in driver seat watching revs and listening clearly

Ask somebody else to remove oil cap or dipstick while engine is running

Do not do this for longer than a few seconds

You should notice the revs wiggle up and down a bit and then engine splutters and cough which means your PCV is fine.

If it runs as normal your PCV is done I'm afraid

That's only a loss of 20 miles on a full tank of fuel. Ok if you do a lot of driving then it may begin to add up but overall on that journey it probably cost you something along the lines of £6 extra on a whole tank of fuel or just south of £3 extra for that particular journey (fag packet maths).

I do that journey pretty much every month, but I do less local journeys now (the Mrs city car is picking up the slack :innocent:)

When I bought the Ed30 I thought it would be pretty much the same on fuel. . .

I do 22 miles each way to work, along M606, M62, M621, usually doing 50/60 mph, standard, the car trip meter (1) read 35-37mpg at the end of the journey, stage 1, with intake, it reads 34-36mpg, so its not a huge difference. This figure is at the end of the journey though, it does take some miles until it gets past 30.

On my 'Road Trip' app, my average of the last 8,000miles,  doing motoway driving is 29.7,mpg, so your not far off. My av over 20,723 miles of all driving is only 26.91 with £4,876.02 worth of V-power/tesco99 being burnt  :signLOL:

Just pulled out the dipstick, the engine spluttered which I'm guessing stuggests the PCV is fine :happy2:

Any other DIY checks I can carry out?

Did you check to see if your revs had a panic attack also? It should jump up and down!

Have you done anything on your dv?
