This is the part number for the genuine stuff if it helps

A long 5mm Allen key with 'wobble' end or a wobble extension with 5mm hex socket will be needed. As a couple of he sump bolts are a bit awkward.

Cheers! Pick up pipe should be waiting at vw for me. I've got all the other bits now.

Well had my first go at this today and got know where. I started with the troublesome 3 bolts and no joy.  Need to get a socket piece that is more flexible tomorrow. Allan key approach with a wobbly extension didn't work either.
Am I right in saying there are also 3 torx screws to come out to drop the sump? Looks like on at the front and 2 drivers side attaching sump to air pipes I think.
Will try again tomorrow - hopefully after the first hurdle it will be easier!

These three bolts are the only difficult part of the job, whilst I never needed to use one of these extension i have done jobs where it's saved my bacon!

I assume your doing it off axle stands and on your back?

5 mm Allen key socket with wobbly head really makes job easier! There is also a cut out in the back of the flywheel to make the job easier. If you Turn the engine over by hand until the groove lines up with the bolts it allows you to get in at a straighter angle so you can get a better grip on them. (Seen quite a few come in with rounded off bolts which can be a nightmare to get out without gearbox removal!) cheers

That picture is what I was using effectively and just not enough bend on the end of it.  Will try again tomorrow!

Got there in the end and all seems well, fingers crossed! Still to inspect old pick up pipe but new one fitted along with new level sensor. I have to say the top tip was turning the engine over by hand to align the notches allowing enough room for quarter drive wobbly head and 10mm socket.
3 torx screws to come out also, one at front and 2 drivers side.
Thanks for all the help!
