Fitting small sub or bose
« on: August 19, 2014, 10:29:55 am »
Hi guys

just wondering first off if it is possible to connect a sub to the rcd 510 dab like you can with the old gamma radios in the mk4s.

Or

Is there an option where you can retro fit a bose system out of an s3 is it possible.

But really would like to put a stealth box in the boot somewhere if any one knows of any where for a small sub.

Thanks Aled

Hi mate, I've recently done this, really easy to do but you need a line converter first if running an amp, I bought the one below and it was spot on:

Basically fours wire, 2 per speaker (+/-). I have it wired at the front behind the stereo at the main plug. All you need to do is identify which speakers you want to splice into, I used the 2 rear door speakers, the colors of the cables are on the stereo if you're unsure which is which.
After that, run your RCA's as usual and they plug into the box. The box also has two controls to adjust any noise interference but I also found it turns the power up too, which I'm unsure if its suppose to do that. Basically I have now maxed it on the box and tweaked the amp instead.
I'm still tweaking the whole install but the converter works as it should.
There are rca line converters for more money which can provide additional features such as remote for the amp but I have just taken a feed from the fusebox for ignition to overcome this.
If you know how to install subs/amplifiers, this will be no probs for you, its basically creating RCA ports as standard OEM units don't have one.

Sound thanks for that. Just I've had the car for 3 years now and want abut more bass only due to putting my old bass tube into me brothers passat which was what I did in my bora.

Any ways now I know I can do that I've got a small 8 sub that I amiably to hide in the boot do you know anywhere that does a slim line sub enclosure.

Also where can I get power cables for the amp throu the bulkhead or is there somewhere in the cab you can tap on to.

Thanks

I've got the 8P3 (MY2010) Bose in my A3 Black Edition and it's very very good for a factory system. I personally would recommend this over the hassle of a sub and amp and boot install etc... I really CBFA with that, although you might be younger and happier than me to be impractical... (I'm 27)

You get enough bass, treble and all round clear sound (even with average mp3's) to be enough for me these days as a one-stop-audio system.

Try Luke at Plush who I contacted myself regarding audio fitting - he does a top job, if you've got the budget for a high standard install?

Cheers for the reply would prefer the bose but not really sure on all the components that I would need and if it would be compatible with my head unit. Am 27 me self and would rather more oem install. As it would still allow more space in the boot and the hassle free amp wireing system.

Just need to find the right person with the knowledge not even sure if somebody has done it before

I would try Luke certainly and any specialist ICE guys that are in the community or scene. Someone who does your regular show cars for the Dub shows will have some good experience of fitting all kinds of speakers. I'd be surprise if it can't be done given that the 8P A3 chassis is based on a MK5, so it can't be that dramatically different.

A friend has an MY06 A3 2.0T and that has the slightly earlier Bose, what the difference to mine is - I have no idea, but to the naked ear, it's hard to tell....

You should be ok with either and grab a set on eBay or an appropriate forum, but certainly ask the right people before buying as you say dude  :happy2:
