Cam chain and adjuster is it diy job??
« on: August 22, 2014, 07:51:04 pm »
My car has now developed a horrible noise which after abit of searching seems to point to the cam chain and adjuster.
Im going to be doing the cam follower soon,  just wondering if the cam chain and adjuster is a diy job, im not a total demic when it comes to getting on the tools!! And i can follow how to guides!!  But is this something that can be tackled? Cheers

Pretty sure its an engine out job to enable access... Could be wrong.

Not something I'd take on as a hobbyist tbh.

Might be thinking of the R32 engine, where there's no room to move in the bay... But a quick Google around the various VW/Audi forums and it looks like the general view is that it's a professional job due to requiring specialist tools and knowing how to avoid the pitfalls that come with this job (weak bolts and setup, ect.). Hope this helps you out.

I'm going to attempt this soon. Just waiting on all the parts and tools to arrive.

Here is a DIY does not seem that complicated.

I was surprised no one on here had done a DIY. It looks like he covers everything. I will probably mark the chain and teeth just to be safe.

Let's know how you find it as it's on the list of jobs to do over the Winter months!
