Wheel sizes and specs
« on: November 01, 2009, 10:36:39 pm »
I noticed the other day when I painted my wheel hubs that my 18" pescara's were stamped with an offset of ET51. For some reason I had it in my head that they were 30-something  :ashamed: I wondered if someone could quickly let me know what offset to go for as and when I upgrade to 19" alloys.
Would an ET41 be ok? Also is there anything else to consider?

There is loads to consider. and  i mean loads

If you are just considering the right size wheel you need to look at the wheel width as well as the offset they both go hand in hand.
then there is the bolt pattern. You need a PCD of 112 although you can make others fit with wobble bolts.  :happy2:

To make the correct decision you have to consider how you are going to drive the car and how low you are going take the suspension.

If you are not going to push the car on corners then you can get away with a low car and a low offset but whats the point of having a ED 30 then.

My advice would be to try and stay as near to 51 offset with a 7.5  or 8.0j wheel as you can the wider you go the more pain you will have.  :happy2:

Before you buy anything post up the size and offset and go from there. My wheels are 18 mil further out than yours and i go through a whole load of pain everyday with mine.  :stupid:

It has effected how low i can go, and what brakes will fit, you would not believe the hassle it has caused me, all because i never considered the knock on effect on other mods and things i wanted to do with my car.  :happy2:

I really love these  VMR V701 Straight spokes in matt black

Would I be correct in thinkin the offset would have a low ETnumber on these beemer wheels? I love the look of the spokes sinking in quite deep into the centre.

^^^ Yes they will be a much lower ET on the BMW, so the same wheel in a Golf friendly fitment won't have the same depth into the centre  :sad1:

^^^ yeah, I thought so steve :sad1:

Well I now know that the wheels, I spotted on eBay, will NOT fit. They are Audi Speedlines 19" 8J with an offset of ET41. I REALLY wanted these to fit too, but they would stick out too far. I Love the look of em. They are in Mint condition (im told) but the tyres are no good. They would have looked great on the golf IMO. So here is the link if anyone can use them. Might work on a S3??? (not sure what offset the S3 wheels are)

Yep, right link. Its impossible for everyone to like the same things. I think they look great! Although I haven't seen them on a MK5.

Not 100% sure, I'm just assuming the advert is correct.
Can anyone else confirm that these are Audi Wheels?

So can anyone tell me the offset limits when it comes to upgrading to 19"wheels.  My original pescara's are 18", 7.5J, ET51. Most aftermarket wheels that are supposed to be model specific for the MK5 golf are 8J and have an offset of ET42 or ET45. Will these offsets work? What is the recommended offset for 19" 8J wheels? Also what tyre sizes are recommended? (my car is lowered on H&R springs).

Basically I would like to know the perfect 19" wheel and tyre specs for a MK5 on H&R springs.
