Rough guide for potential power...
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:56:40 pm »
Hi all,

I have been looking for a bit at the remap potential for the GTI as im looking to buy one next week. However coming from the subaru scene im a bit confused with the whole stage 1/1+/2/2+/3/3+ thing... (a remap is a remap and custom to whatever you have bolted on I thought??)

The car i have in budget will be a low millage 06'ish probably with DSG, and lucky R-Tech are only 30 miles down the road from me so will be getting it done there.

I have seen that you can get around 250 with just a remap and not doing anything else but I will most likely want a bit more so was thinking about adding a decat (maybe just the decat with the stock system as dont want it to be too loud if this will still work?) and a cold air induction. would this be classed as a stage 2 map??

Also is there any tips on other things I can change to get a bit more out of the map? I dont want to change the turbo but heard the KO3 was good for about 280 which I would be happy with. what else is needed to get close to that figure?

The whole stage thing was originally created by Revo I believe but now its just a good way to measure what level of tuning your at regardless of what company maps your car. Stage 2 is decat/ sports cat (which works best with a full system to compliment) and CAI also an intercooler is recommended. To Max a K03 you'll need CAI, Turbo back exhaust, intercooler and probably a high pressure fuel pump.

For cheap gains to complement a remap, get a panel filter and remove the pre-cat from the exhaust

Cheers lads. I'll definitely be getting rid of the pre cat, can't beat free gains!!!

I saw an install how to for an s3 intercooler and looked like a big job so didn't really fancy that lol

Does anyone have a rough estimate for achievable power with everything other than the intercooler? Will 265ish be reasonable to expect using 99 Ron?

Presuming that everything else is sound like turbo condition etc obviously

Intercooler won't get you any more power on the dyno but will help to maintain power when driving hard  on the road, as it maintains a flow of cool air. The dyno fans are so powerful that you wouldn't notice any more power there (if you see what I mean). . .

Get an intake. Either EVOMS, ITG or Revo for the best gains.

Intake and pre-cat delete will see around 260bhp with 99RON.

After that it's Downpipe & sports cat (or decat) and an uprated HPFP (high pressure fuel pump)   :happy2:
