Adding an RNS 510. What parts do l need?
« on: August 26, 2014, 08:44:08 am »
Morning all. Hope you can help. Im looking to upgrade the stereo in my GTI, currently a bog standard RCD 300, to something a little better. Ideally I want an RNS 510, and need help as to what part numbers/revisions etc l need to help me get the best set up.

I know Im going to need:

RNS 510 (obviously!!): Revision C or above

New Canbus Gateway: No clue which revision is best. Having read this topic - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,87969.0.html - Im still none the wiser, can anyone help with which with the features/options available on each version?

Bluetooth Module: I want to be able to pair my iPhone to my stereo, music streaming isnt a big deal as l will likely use the HD on the RNS 510, or.....

MDI Interface: Again, no clue here! Anything that connects via lightning port to iPad/iPod/iPhone.

Lastly, Highline clocks: I have 962 clocks, so I know I will need 972 clocks. Are these the only clocks I can use? What extra options will/can be displayed on the highline?

As many of you know, l live on Disability benefits, so this will be a long term project. Are there any advantages/disadvantages of buying the parts l need as and when l can afford them? What should I buy first? Should I get it all fitted at once or as I get the parts?

I know its lots of questions and Im sure theyre very basic, but any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben.

Mdi may not be needed as long as the bluetooth module you get supports music streaming.

Highline clocks arent needed either

From my experience, what I have installed:

I went for LED rns510 F revision as It comes with bigger HDD, more features, etc.

Radio is plug and play, except you will need an aerial adaptor (twin fakra) and a GPS antenna.
Some coding might be necessary to enable certain features, MFSW, display, etc if you have one.

For Bluetooth, you will need a wiring loom also P&P, microphone and a Bluetooth module. Straight forward stuff. I installed everything in mine in less then 2 hours, coded, tested, and working.

I think someone on here is selling the looms, pm Eddie-NL he offered me one only a few weeks ago.

Thats all,

Absolutely savage mod once you get everything paired up. Im well chuffed with mine. Have VIM enabled, latest update and v11 maps and this thing rocks

You need an antenna adapter like mentioned above with the part number: V7L6051551.

Your CAN Gateway needs to be upgraded at least to 1K0 907 530 Q. I'd search for something newer, if I was to get a new one for myself.

You'll need to code your unit with VCDS to your car's specs.

Cheers
