Chose the wrong tyres? Please Help!
« on: August 27, 2014, 04:21:05 pm »
Finally got the tyres mounted on my new wheels.

As i'm running 225 45 R17 on my stock wheels which are 7.5 inches wide.

I thought i would run the same size tyre on the new wheels which are 8 inches wide.

I went with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 225/45 R17 94y XL with rim protection.

Here a few pics i know i need more low. But they seem massive i'm sure the tyres that are on my stock wheels would look much better than these.

On the up side they do have a smoother ride.
The main problem is how much they stick over the rims.

So my question is what to do now?

1. Take them off with less than 5 miles on and try and sell them.
2. Just live with it.

What tyres should i have bought?

I'm afraid i can't help you bud but if you choose to keep them i'd be tempted to paint BF GOODRICH in white lettering on the tyre walls!

On a more serious note i hope someone can help you get it sorted  :happy2:

Thanks mate you made me smile for a second :sad1:

I'm pretty upset with my self i spent ages reading reviews/post etc and my car has turned into a 4X4.

The tyres on my stock wheels look great and they are the same size. But maybe the thinner rim xl and rim protection have fuc*ed it.

Tyres are coming off tomorrow going to try and mount one of the tyres of my stock wheels and see how they look. They are cheap Chinese tyres very noisy really wanted to try something better.

Before i waste any more time and money on these wheels how about this clearance? I do have brand new discs and pads so in theory things can only get better?

Brake wear will hardly affect that clearance anytime soon. I fitted stock sized tyres on my alloys and have the same sort of sidewall poke but I like it.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Thanks for your input. Is this clearance safe?

What size tyres would people usually run on a 17x8 wheel?

I might just sell them and stick with my curbed monza alloys. I'm not having much luck with this stuff.

Good decision. Those rims are hideous.

To keep that rims you need a stretch tyre look, maybe a 215 40 17 tyre, then lower it, try and see if some one can photoshop it for you to give you an idea before hand.

Just my opinion but don't like the wheels to be honest? Tyre's are fine wheels no
