As far as I know, all RLine have a chrome/aluminium look for the front grill. The seats for a RLine are similar to the GTI ones but different color. The front valance is GTI ED 30 one and the rear valance is a Individual/ ED 30 once more (with the center painted black). Is your car factory RLine or did you (or the previous owner) make the RLine mods?

About the R-line equipment level, well, here in Portugal at least VW sold two R-lines pack. The normal (which I chose as an extra) and the R-line Plus.

Mine has the same seats like the GTI, but with a specific fabric (darker), the same steering wheel like the GTI but with a .:R badge at the bottom, R-line aluminium pedals, R-line front and rear door sill scuff plate protectors, R-line badges in the wheel arches and R-line 17'' wheels (Speedline Omanyt). The pack was pretty cheap, a bit more than 400 € with 21% VAT included. That's like 320 £.

The R-line Plus pack has all that you mentioned and I think the Omanyt were 18'', like the R32. Not sure how much it was then to add that pack but I think it was around 2000 € (1600 £) with VAT included. I was young and I didn't think it was worth it at the time.

I would like to see the position of the front sensors, and also the look on the rns. Do you have some blind spots with the sensors, if you know what i mean?
The time this weekend was just too short so I could to get around to take the pictures you've requested. I'll try to do it this week.

From your photo the seats seem to be Sport. Are you sure they are GTI-like? Maybe put another picture to see the whole seats!

You are right about the seats, they are like the Sport but just with a different cloth. Here in Portugal I've never seen a R-line like mine. I've only seen two R-line Plus passing by on the street, one Portuguese and one Spanish. I've never seen an open online project from one of them, so I've never seen that they have the same seats as the R32. That helps to explain the price of the more complete pack, as well. :smiley:

Other news, yesterday I had the HEL braided front brake lines installed and the brake oil changed to ATE SL.6 DOT4.

The bolts provided with the kit weren't compatible with my R32 front calipers. I've contacted the store (www.JDL-brakes.com) where I bought the kit and they had no complaints in the last 2 years. They've sold 16 kits in that period. Weird. :confused: My mechanic went to a lathe and got the needed bolts. Problem solved. :happy2:

What I can tell you about the new oil is that the feel of the ABS pump working it's now much smoother on the brake pedal and I think I noted less tyre block when I ran some brake tests. For a progressive braking I just need to make a light pressure on the brake pedal as well, so that stayed the same as before.

I also fitted this lining part on the left rear of my Golf. I don't know why it doesn't come as standard. Do your Golfs have it? It's possible to install in either Mk5 and Mk6. Part number 1K0825206A:

Got the door warning lights installed but instead of the GTI cluster I got a Golf Mk6 Climatronic fitted. Tomorrow I'll have to order the Jetta's center console frame.

I'll also order the rear axle lining.

The GTI cluster will get fitted next Friday. :smiley:

Called the tech that was going to fit the front fascia and the needle pointers of the GTI on my cluster and he couldn't make it tomorrow.

Searched some DIY online and got the needed courage to do it myself. Had a bit of trouble removing the needle pointers with my fingers, since I didn't have the proper tool for it and I didn't want to damage the clusters. Eventually they got out and I managed to reassemble them in their proper positions (6-7 attempts later...).

Well, not sure about the exact figure. For what I've read the drag reduction should be at least 0,01.

Without a wind tunnel we cannot state the amount of improvement but it it will be an improvement. Flatter is better in this area.
We cannot exactly state the resulting lift front and rear (but I promise at 200 km/h it's around 0 front and 250 N rear). No real downforce of course, but better than stock though.


At high speeds "aerodynamic drag" is the main drag factor. Reducing it by a low margin has large effects on dynamics and economy. Also there is "aerodynamic lift" causing instability.

Lift isn't any problem the Golf's front. 
It's got nearly no lift (about 50 N/5 kg @ 200 km/h) at front. The rear is an unequal problem like it is with all hatches. The stock Golf V GTI produces about 350 N/35 kg lift @ 200 km/h, the Mk.VI as well.

That's much more important because the cars's tail is lightweight and when braking hard it's even much more light. Some of You may have experienced that by their own.

Don't expect wonders, but there's a slight improvement possible for very low budget.

The point is the Golf has almost zero lift on front, but some lift on rear at higher speeds.
Drag is quite significant but it's hard to reduce. I have some ideas though and I did some (and will do even more) mods I hope to reduce lift on rear as close to zero as possible.

Conclusion:
While the GTI (both Mk5 and Mk6) has very low front lift, it has some significant rear lift and mediocre drag.
Rear lift causes unsettling when braking from higher speeds, drag increases fuel consumption.

It's also possible to fit the A3 and TT 8J rear arm covers but not sure if I'll go that far with improving my Golf's aerodynamics. :laugh:
