Small update, the cherry red hazard switch was in the mailbox when I arrived home. Got my tools and fitted it right away. No picture because it was already too dark, but it's nothing that impressive either. Just another small bit done.

I'm still waiting for a lot of parts:
-LED interior set from the USA: Customs clearance processing complete last Friday.
-42 Draft Designs shifter bushing set: arrived at Chicago today. 22 € cheaper to buy directly from 42 DD compared to AwesomeGTI. Should be import tax free because it only cost 35 $.
-OEM short shifter (8J0711046D) from VW: around 2-3 weeks it seems since I'm the first in Portugal to order this part (PN wasn't available ("open") here still).
-Metal side bracket (1J0711203L) from VW: already available.
-Other small bits to fit in the side bracket (1J0711761C; 1J0711550; N90815903) from VW: already available.
-Shifter lubricant (G00045002) from VW: next week or so.

Picked up the LED from deAutoKey (http://deautokey.com/product/14pc-complete-interior-license-plate-led-kit-error-free-fits-06-08-volkswagen-mk5-golf-gti) today from the Post Office. Managed to fit them by following the USP Motorsport DIY video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5rBV3EmlYU, except the front dome lights.

I couldn't manage to fit the LED like they did in the video, so I had to remove the whole interior front light part and fit the LED from above. This kit was personalized to my needs since I didn't need the license plate lights (already have the OEM LED lights) but needed instead another 2 footwell lights. They sent those that I asked and extra 2 footwell lights, 2 dome lights and one vanity light festoon. Adding the price of the kit, the shipping cost and the Customs tax these LED were very expensive. On their behalf they have lifetime warranty and, as advertised fade out like the original lights.

Easier to fit and much cheaper than the R32's rear valance. OEM quality is better but it's double the price.

Got the rest of the parts needed for the short shifter from VW today.

So here's my future OEM short shifter for PR-0EJ gearboxes with metal side bracket to replace the factory fitted plastic one assembled:


I'll have to wait for the next oil change service to get the shifter fitted. Currently with 11.000 km/6.835 miles.

Ordered the new wheels and Continental SC5 last week and they should be available by the end of the month.

Last week I was informed that the OZ factory had some issues producing Graphite Matte colour wheels so I'll have to wait at least another 2-3 weeks to receive them.

Next week I scheduled an oil and filters change and the short shifter will also be fitted.

Got my Golf serviced yesterday. While it was there got the Audi TT short shifter fitted with the Golf MY2006 5 speed metal side-to-side shifter bracket, that had to be modified by a lathe because the fixing pin had 10 mm of diameter. The original plastic part has 12 mm. The lathe made and fitted a new 12 mm metal pin to the bracket.

So these parts were fitted:

Already made around 100 miles/160 km and shifting now is easier, more precise and faster thanks to the short shifter and the 42 Draft Designs shifter bushing set.

But those are not all the news I have for today...

Yesterday got a call informing that my new wheels had arrived so I booked to get them fitted today.

Totally transformed the look of my Golf.

The weight shed was noticeable while driving and turning the wheels. The ride comfort has decreased a bit going over rougher bumps and potholes, as expected.

I'll have to break the new tyres to really get to know how they handle doing hard turns.

This project is now almost finished. It has almost 86k miles/138.000 km.

I wanted to get new wheels since around 4-5 years but I'm glad I left it for later because I've learned so much in the meantime that led me to a wiser choice. They really make a difference accelerating.

Fitted yesterday these bolt caps for my new wheels after receiving the tip from a more experienced friend:


The set includes:
16x Wheel bolt covers: 321601173AZ37
4x Locking wheel bolt cover: 4F0601173AZ37
Audi removal tool: 8D0012244A

The locking wheel bolt covers will need a bit of modding to get tightly secured in place since I got a set of locking wheel bolts from Still-Bull that isn't completely compatible with any of the OEM covers.

Next mods will be:
-Refurbish the front calipers -> repair seal kit ordered from ebay


-Paint all the calipers black, R20 style.

-Fit the R20 front caliper clips -> ordered from ebay


-Upgrade rear brake discs -> will order some DBA 2811S from a local official dealer


-Upgrade rear brake pads -> ordered from oscaro.es a set of Ferodo DS Performance FDS1083

I still haven't made the mods that I've listed. My mechanic has been very busy and I'm in no rush to have them done, really.

But I have another big news to share, next month if all goes as planned I'll be the new owner of a CW 3 doors Eddie with DSG in mint condition with less than 35.000 miles.

The owner and I have mutual friends and it has an open project in the same Portuguese forum so I know it's history pretty well.

Can't wait to seal the deal.
