RNS510 - A couple of questions!
« on: August 27, 2014, 10:13:10 pm »
Hi there,

Recently bought an Edition 30 that has an RNS510 head unit installed and I could do with some helpful info!

1. If i get a lightning to 30-pin adapter from apple http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD824ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter-02m?fnode=84ba7f15b10f5fe2d50a35e82fc164ee0ef171875161a3ab9a3103c70ad559106bd6bf8f44987d533356f131293d927aec5776cca2501a03b615a92442dfab47ed4a115f611b066631170b48fc941b55d3e4157061ebb9214eb617f1858c5a7cf7a24c4d678979a9ae9f6ba13d3d4cb0 will I be able to use my iPhone 5 through the system? (music etc)

2. How do I find out what version firmware the system is running?

Thanks,

Sam

Hi I'm not sure on the adaptor but if you press the setup button for approx 20 second you should get into the hidden menu but this can some times be depend on your firmware

What are you going to connect the lightning adaptor to? You must have an MDI kit or something I guess? But no, it won't work. If you have an MDI kit then you'll need to buy the genuine VW lead to suit the iphone 5.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

My car has the 30pin iPhone port installed under the armrest , which will suit and iphone 4 but I have an iphone 5 so I wondered if I could just get an adaptor lead to make it work?

Nope, it won't work (as far as I'm aware) as the hardware you have is incompatible with the iphone 5. The adaptor can't fix your hardware unfortunately.
