Edition 30 service and Timing Belt question
« on: August 28, 2014, 11:01:29 am »
Hi.. I have an Edition 30 and its on 40k miles and due a service. It last got serviced at 32k miles and has never had the timing belt done.

I rang up VW in Liverpool for a quote for a timing belt fitted and they quoted £450. I have done a search on here and some people are getting them at £300??
Is cam belt and timing belt the same thing?

What else should be getting done at 40k miles? A search said people were paying about £230, so I am looking at £450 + £230 for the timing belt and then the standard 40k service?

mine is non DSG.

cheers for any help

Statllers in sheffield did my cam belt and waterpump (inc new engine mount stretch bolts) for around £300. this was a year or so ago so prices may have changed, they were the cheapest quote i had.

Take a great drive through the hills and get it done  :happy2:

In a word, yes!
When doing the cam belt it is recommended that you change the water pump as well.
Brake fluid should be changed every two years so have a look at your car service history to see if it's needed.

Have you tried calling Awesome or GNJ Motorsport for a quote?

Awesome GTI have quoted £354 for the belt and pump and £169 for the full service...

does that sound reasonable?
