So I finally bit the bullet and ordered all the stuff to make an ipad mount in the dash.

My plan is to put a single din headunit  behind the ipad but with a slit in the mount so i can still control the headunit and have the radio on if i please.

I ordered a ipad mini transparent case, bond, filler, milliput, second hand fascia and a dremel.

First of all i trimmed the fascia down to allow room for the ipad, then I stuck the ipad case to the fascia with the bond and let it dry.

I then filled around the case with the milliput and left to set.

I then cut the hole where the headunit will be visible and applied the filler.

I then began to test fit the ipad and sand down the filler to try and get a perfect fit.

And this is where i am now..

It's nowhere near perfect but its my first ever attempt at anything like this and ive enjoyed doing it so far.

The next stage is to fit magents behind the fascia to hold the ipad in place.

The plan is to run a lightning cable into the side so when the ipad's in place it will charge and also be used for audio, but also the HU has bluetooth so my phone will be able to connect at the same time as well.

I'm sure I've seen online some stuff for that might be of interest to you, I'll see if I can find it.

Nope, can't find it, but there's stuff out there that replaces the need for a HU at all.

So after my car deciding it didn't want to turn on and me neglecting it for a while I thought I'd give my ipad install another go.

I drilled a whole to the left where the lightning connector will connect once the ipad is in place.

I then got a smart cover and cut the magnets out to use to snap the ipad to when its in place.

A bit more of an update for you all.

But first I'll start off with the bad news, I was driving down the m27 when all of a sudden I had this fly towards me and then it managed to get stuck under my car!
So i had to pull onto the hard shoulder & jack my car up to pull it out! (It's a piece of metal if you cant tell  :happy2: )

This is the damage.. pretty annoyed to say the least, but even more of an excuse to get a votex splitter!

Anyway!

To the good news, I've finally finished my iPad install.

I decided to wrap the whole thing in suede instead of spraying it as no matter what I did small cracks would keep appearing, I put this down to the mount being so heavy. But this does protect the iPad when its in there from getting scratched so it's not all bad.

There are a few creases where i lost my patience but I'm still really happy with the outcome and its only cost me around £25 in total & its a great sense of achievement to do something like this yourself rather than paying over £200 for a company to do it!
