Rear wiper has a mind of its own?
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:52:18 pm »
Hi all,

My rear wiper is doing some very odd stuff.

Sometimes when I turn the car on it gives its self a wipe. Dry or wet
I know the wipers are auto but is that the rear one too?
When I reverse it sometimes wipes too. If I turn the car off mid wipe it gets stuck in random positions then when I turn the car back on it eventually sorts itself out.

Is this usual behaviour?

Is there a way to turn the auto wiper off just the rear with out the high line clocks?

Cheers

If its wet and you put the car in reverse the rear wipes (if you have auto wipers engaged) and unlike the fronts the rear doesn't automatically put itself down if you turn the engine off mid wipe (doesn't on mine anyways). Wiping randomly I'm not sure, maybe you just hit the stalk by accident a few times? Don't really know of any issues that cause random wipes but someone else might be able to shed some light on that one.

If you have auto wipers it will auto wipe if it is wet when you go into reverse, but occasionally this happens when it's dry, it's just the sensor having a bit of a hiccup. It occasionally happens with my fronts too, normally if I drive into a car park where there is a change of light.

it also wipes a few times in auto mode before stopping however this can cause confusion, a muck about with the wiper stalk without paying attention to what you are doing and switching the rear wiper to on or intermittent, which means it keeps going despite your best attempts to make it stop.....

...or at least that's what's happened to me on a couple of ocassions  :ashamed:

Keep in mind - Similar problems occur when the harness has failed in the tailgate bellows :happy2:
