cheers mate, it's coming along very well :) very happy so far.


With the DsD cooler I'm now finding that my cruising intake temps are as low as 0.5 degrees BELOW ambient (I monitor on my polar) and recovery rates are greatly improved on the stock cooler..drops from 22-23 to 6 or 7 very quickly. Heatsoak also seems much much less of an issue, I have seen intake temps up to 45 degrees with my old cooler after parking up for a few minutes -  the highest I've seen since the cooler went on in similar ambient conditions and pre-shutdown conditions is 22...so a big improvement.

So on Monday morning after setting off at 5am... again..... I arrived at Darkside to see the bumblebee on the ramps..

Popped over to the other unit and saw my brand new GTB2260 and tubular manifold... my manifold came off their Arosa after a few dyno runs ... little piece of diesel history if you were such interested in rubbish like that haha and saved me a few bob...which later turned out to be a godsend..as I will explain.

Anyway I left them with the car and we carried on up to Scotland...for a holiday!
Staying in Edinburgh, had loads of fun and I will upload a few pics to share when I've had the chance to pull them off my Camera.

Anyway, the car was due to be collected on Saturday.
It all seemed well and I was getting regular updates. Then I had some bad news...the car wasn't running happily at all...was not boosting right, was very smokey, and would only do 206bhp....the EGT sensor had failed and the battery kept going flat... this was on Wednesday. They also removed the Swirl Flaps on the Inlet for me, something that could have possibly caused issues but it hadn't in this case, although, same as the EGR - they were all gunked up... (I suspect a Terraclean on the car would go down well) as we get closer and closer to Saturday I get an Email at 5:45 on Friday night (by now we were staying in Barnsley) saying basically the car is not running right and they'd need more time... things happen , and I was kept up to date all the time, so I wasn't bothered. But was panicking trying to arrange to borrow cars or worst case, rent a car for the next week.. Darkside had given me FOC a EGT sensor which seemed to do the job...

I popped along at 11:30 on Saturday morning just to check the car over myself. I paid a large chunk of the bill and said that I would leave the car with them..just as we were heading out the door, Ryan came through beaming away saying he thinks he's just fixed it..but wasn't sure - so I waited around. After a few hours I was told the car was ready!! But some bits needed tweaking and we also needed to get a NEW EGT sensor..the one they gave me FOC seemed to work for a while - but then stopped reading over a certain temperature which was limiting power..so we had to get a new EGT sensor..   Very happy and big thanks to DsD for hanging on and really working hard to get it running well.


So the final result is 237bhp and 375lb ft which is a teeny bit low but around the money.. their own CR170 did 242.. and mine has done a fair more few miles to be fair, they are also running a prototype HPFP.

It was interesting to note that after fitting the intercooler, the car made exactly the same power but it held the power at the top end better... from 3800 to 5k, a consistent 5-6bhp more.
The spike on the graph is not ideal but you don't feel it on the road... another aspect of "dyno charts don't tell the whole story".
It drives VERY nicely and smoothly... love it. It feels MUCH more aggressive on the road and it's absolutely quicker than my Stage 2 GTI was...which was never dynoed but they go between 250 and 275. It feels like 280bhp to be fair, and on the road it's much faster than the figures suggest.

Gonna let everything bed in for a few thousand miles then we'll start trackdaying...

Now the plans are...

- Get the new wheels on.. Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2s - try to find some slicks for 2 of my Scirocco wheels to use at Drag events.

- Superpro rear suspension bushes
- H&R Anti Roll Bars
- Audio build, full front/rear Hertz setup with 4ch Hertz amp and mono amp for Rockford Fosgate sub..
- 335mm rear brake setup
- Limited Slip Diff

(all done with Alex).

- R Line bodywork and paint
- Half cage, rear build with storage etc

Sorry to know that your Rocco had mechanical issues while fitting the new turbo kit. These things are always a bit painful (moneywise and time consuming). I'm glad it's all up and running now. :smiley:

The R-Line kit will look great! :notworthy:

Will you make some videos on your trackdays? :drool:

Exactly  like you say.. nothing ever goes to plan!
Ryan & the guys at Darkside were very helpful though and did put a lot of effort into getting it sorted for me so I wasn't without a car for extra time, which is really appreciated

Yes the mrs bought me a go pro for Christmas so I'll use that at Trackdays etc :)

I have a friend who has a Scirocco with white BBS RX that he can't keep clean for much time:


He doesn't like xenon lights too. I have no idea why. :confused:

Interesting how you've gone new turbo and are around the 240hp marker, you'd expect it to be more in numbers and on paper as all the pub talk goes, but I expect the drive is as torque filled as you suggest and completely changed :happy2:

Is it single or twin scroll this one, out of interest?

Unfortunately the limit is how much fuel the engine can deliver, because of the common rail system system. a hpfp builds fuel pressure in a shared rail which then feeds all 4 (in this case) injectors.

there is currently a higher flow fuel pump which Darkside are testing but then brings about the issue that it builds up too much fuel pressure in the rail, because the injectors can't, in effect, empty that rail fast enough. I think Ryan was telling me the injectors are officially flow tested to 400bhp but in reality they will do 250 as a maximum, being new and in good health. I have only seen ONE car do more than that, which is a Spanish tuned Leon CR170 which has a dyno sheet for 287cv (which is like 282bhp or something).
he said they have found some injectors which should flow more and drop right in but they've not had any time to do any "development" work on this as they have been so busy with getting their new units sorted out and the existing load of tuning work. I'm hoping in time then they will have an upgrade package.

the head apparently flows better than the BKD head (the CR head is reportedly got a head flow limit of around 260-270 but seems this is not the case). the issue is the camshaft which isn't as aggressive as the BKD one and it won't fit in either, so looks like an uprated camshaft would be on the cards to truly make the most of it. at the end of the day i'm happy with the car and willing to do what i need to do to make it 300bhp.

it's not a twin scroll i believe, just a GTB2260vk mated to a tubular manifold.

I've raced a few motors, 350z was despatched with pretty easily, Porsche Boxster S (987) no problems.. it certainly feels stronger than the 237bhp, I imagine because of the huge torque figure. I've timed a 62-124mph (based off my video rather than official) of 13.8 seconds which is around the same accelerative performance as a E46 M3. I'm sure after the 120mph barrier the M3 would start to gain, I'm not deluded, but it punches well above it's weight.

I got my Team Dynamics through from the @DEMON TWEEKS  Group buy.
Weird that I got spigots etc but they APPEAR to be 57.1 CB... either that or 56.1 (Subaru fitment trololol). I guess I will only find out later on when we go to get them fitted. If they are 57.1 then that would be handy for this car at least, although being honest I would have preferred having a higher centerbore with Spigots simply because my Mrs A4 is 66.6 and if she ever needed a set of wheels to roll on.. But I appreciate it all the same!

After having them sat around for a week while I was working on a car I spent yesterday evening applying CQuartz to them. Being white, it's an absolute b*tch to apply because you can't see where you've applied it, so I ended up putting 2 coats on the barrels and faces and I left them to cure over night - this evening I will apply Reload as a top up tonight, prior to having them fitted. Just hoping it will enable easy cleaning for a year or so, the brake pads can dust a fair amount!

I need my existing tyres swapped over, probably fortunate as my current front tyres are getting a tad low, so will just rotate them when we put them on.
Am quite happy to finally get them on, hopefully it's tonight and I can clean the car and get some nice pictures

He has a 2.0 TSI and fitted the R front and rear bumpers recently.

I so need R-line bumpers but i think that will be not for a long time, even non genuine bits are going to be over £1200 by time they're on.
I could consider gloss black mirrors :)
Hoping the LSD would be worth it, but again that's a huge chunk of money so may need to wait a while.
So not much developments for a while i think.

I think yours would be perfectly suitable for day to day use. there's only so much you can realistically use!  :drool:
