Bonnet insulation
« on: September 25, 2014, 06:22:14 pm »
For a little while now the bonnet insulation on my 08' GTi has been shedding, sagging and falling apart where it sits in the bonnet at the rear edge.   After reading many posts on various forums it seems its not uncommon and its a good idea to replace rather than remove as it might be designed to drop onto the engine in case of a fire and smother it (not sure how well this would work).

Anyway, I got a new one today from my local dealer - P/N - 1KO 863 831 D @ £44.54 + Vat

It comes already fitted with new plastic clips and is a doddle to fit.

Just though I'd post in case anyone else was having the same problem.  The new one seems a little stiffer, is made of different insulation material and has metal type heat shield at the front end.

Old one with bottom edge falling apart.

My original bodge with some speed tape.

Nice shiney new one!

Looks nice, and not too bad for the price. Mines sagging a little so maybe one for the future.

Its daft really, no one else sees it and it wasn't doing any real harm but I'm chuffed at how good it looks now and thats it back to be as it should again.

Little things like this really niggle me strangely.  Well worth the spend.
