My wife asked me to buy a small automatic car as she refuses to drive a manual.

Luckily I found out her licence is not valid so I'm planning on going to stage 2 before she gets a new one.

I hated automatics in the past but the DSG is awesome. Shes getting on a bit now 05. She does clunk a little bit going from P to R and R to D hopefully that is normal.

I get the odd clunk as well, sounds like its coming from the passengers side. Not sure what it is though.

I made a fast left-right one time and the gf's head made that noise when she cracked it off the window.

I doubt that will be DSG.
Could even be the turbo, I've heard it can do that if the turbo is f*cked.

The turbo?? You haven't read that on this forum, have you?

I'd suggest PCV is to blame if the idle is very bad. Little stutters at idle are common on these now

Just had my mech unit replaced at vw for a total of 1600 all in, including oil etc. Bought my car not knowing the fault but it became apparent something was wrong when the car was hot. Jerking from a standstill and at low rpm, clunking gears and nearly stalling. I got 50% off goodwill from vw was the car is FWVSH so make that a definite when you come to buy as they won't even entertain any goodwill unless it's got that. Fault is completely sorted now and it's smooth as butter :)

£750? That's cheap in comparison to what I've read?

£750 was the price after the 50% goodwill was taken off  :innocent:

Seems 50% goodwill is pretty standard as that's what I got too

ECU Testing did my multitronic unit for my audi and cost me £500 all in including oil and all the work from a specialist and it was absolutely faultless

Where are the based?
Just took mine back to the garage, they've reset the dsg which hasn't sorted the problem, they now recommend changing the oil and after that if it's not fixed they think it could be the clutch packs. What symptoms would I be experiencing if it was the clutch packs. Everything thsts happening is the same as what other people have had with the mechatronic unit being the cause.

The garage is adamant it's not the mechatroinc. Sick of it now as the garage i got it from is 1.5 hour drive from where I live.

*EDIT* Just had a search online and I'll probably looking at £150ish to do an oil change on the dsg!

I did mine myself i'm sure the DSG fluid and filter alone cost me a little less than that.

I spoke to a local gearbox specialist and he's recommended that I get it booked in with VW as there diagnostics are better than vcds and will be able to diagnose if there is a problem with DSG. Does this sound right?

I spoke to a local VW specialist about mine and from what I told him over the phone he was also adamant that mine probably only needed a new clutch pack and was not the mechatronic. His reason was that it only lurched in 2nd gear at low revs.

He said it was approx £1000 for a new clutch pack from TPS and 3 hrs labour.

I dont have that kind of cash atm so will leave it for now as it is not too bad but will be interested in seeing what VW say if they look at yours!

VW confirmed my suspicions this morning, it was the mechatronic, they also quoted me £2287.46 to replace it.

Gunnar fire an email over now to the garage I got it from.
