Heated Mirrors
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:08:19 am »
Ok so today was the first day since owning my car that i needed to use my heated mirrors/rear screen due to the mist/condensation and the screen was fine but the mirrors didnt get hot.

My wife is saying maybe the car doesnt have them ? But i am pretty sure most cars have them, is there a separate switch or does it have to be in a certain position on the adjuster dial

Or is there someway of checking if the car even has them apart from taking them apart of course !

The car i have is a 57 plate GTD170

Any help would be appreciated

I always forget how you turn them on. Either point the knob to 12 or 6 o clock

Putting on the heated rear window doesn't activate the mirrors like it does in some cars; you need to turn the mirror adjustment knob so that the little white 'dot' is pointing towards the front of the car  :happy2:

I miss the heated window switch from my mkiv which used to demist the mirrors at the same time.

When I got my mk5 I didn't realise the mirror heaters had been left on by the previous owner / VW dealership I bought the car from. I was well impressed that the mirrors seemed to demist themselves, until my local VW dealer pointed out the mirror switch had been left in the 'ON' position.

Epic fail for me... :ashamed:

Still, the wing mirror spiders were kept nice & warm!!
