GTI a bit Grogy in the Mornings (and when Cold).
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:07:12 am »
Morning All,

Don't know how to explain this but hopefully you get the idea.

Every morning (or when the car is cold) it seems to hesitate on the first start, it starts first key turn, but I feel the car is really straining to start.  I would describe it like a choking effect, almost like skipping a beat.

Seems to have only started recently, since the winter mornings have kicked in.  Once the car is warm it will start without the choking.

If this makes any sense and you have any ideas I will gratefully accept them.

Many Thanks
Paul

The car runs 100% when I'm driving no weird noises, loss of power etc.

Thanks for the feedback.  Done the spark plugs a while back (2 months).  Oil changed.

The carbon inlet thing seems really intense (for me anyway).  I'd rather pay Terraclean TBH.

I suspect the battery.  Voltage after a 50 minute run (motorways @ around 75mph) was 12.34.

Left overnight the voltage is sitting at 12.1.

Opinions?

Regards
Paul

Mine had the exact same symptoms and it was the battery, replaced for high performance one and it hasnt happened since.

Good way of checking is to watch your mfd when starting it. If the red display flickers and dulls with each turn then the battery is dying.

Most likely your problem so.

Count yourself lucky, a new battery is only a few pound. At least it may not be anything serious.

If you think you can wait a little longer sign up for promo emails from whatever car parts places you use and wait for one to come in with a discount code for batteries. I did that a while back with micksgarage.com

Same thing here mate. Thinking it's battery. Going to get it changed before winter hits!
