Lighting
« on: August 25, 2014, 02:14:35 am »
So recently i've been looking at some cheap light options for the garage to help me out when using the DA as the lighting in there is pretty poor and doesn't really offer much help when inspecting for swirls. Don't really fancy tearing a hole in my pocket and spending daft money on a sun gun so I'm wondering if halogen lights would be of any use?

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/chl151-halogen-floodlight-150w230v

Spotted these at a cheap price so i guess my question is.. Will these be of any use and do what I'm asking them to do and work as a sun gun to or will it be something that just lights the garage up?

If this would be useful or if i'd need a higher voltage type then would the type of lighting have any greater improvements such as LED, fluorescent, halogen?

Carl.

A friend of mine got some 2nd hand hydroponic lights from gumtree that have done a great job at showing the good, and bad in the paint.

Not sure if this any good advice but the results looked good to me

We use several light sources... you can buy Brinkmanns for about £50.. you can also make your own Sun-gun if you want for about £8 and any old power drill.
Predominantly we have a selection of LED free standing lights which can be angled (like the ones you show but LED instead of Halogen), Halogen free standing lights (which are good but generate a lot of heat so hot working) and a few other LED and Halogen hand torches...

I'd recommend both Halogen and LED as some marks are easier to spot under certain lighting..
