Engine oil
« on: September 11, 2014, 06:44:55 pm »
What grade engine oil should be used for a 05 gti :)

Fully or semi synth?

I usually buy castrol magnatec, would this be sufficient?

Thanks

5w 30 is recommended but a lot of tuned cars on here (myself included) use 5w 40 because it stays a bit thicker when the engine is hot so when you're booting it it lubricates a bit better. Depends on your driving if you don't drive very aggressively or do lots of smaller journeys 5w 30 is best. Fully synthetic is more expensive but better. If you you want the best then most agree millers nanodrive CFS nt is the one to go for, its about £60 a bottle on Opie oils.

Ive started using millers 5w40 my car is totally standard but using this over a month my car hasn't needed to be topped up at all, where as before I was using castrol edge 5w30 and I was topping that up just about every week.

Think from now on what ever car I have will be getting millers oil in.

Oh that sucks, Castol Edge FST is good, as long as you go fully synthetic from a good brand

In that case use Castrol Edge. Don't use Mobil it is inferior to the Castrol Edge oil.
