RNS310 SatNav problem.
« on: September 11, 2014, 08:23:17 pm »
Hey guys, I've just fitted my second(!) rns310. Nice little unit but on both, the nav works for about 3 miles then the whole unit resets, and keeps resetting every 30 second or so until you take the disc out....Tried another disc, same thing! I know these thing are supposed to be plug and play and don't give you a battery drain (mines a 2005 GTI) which seems to be true but maybe it does need coding? I cant believe I had 2 dodgy units!?

Did you have a nav unit in previously before these two? Because if you didn't then you need to tell the car you have a nav fitted.

Thanks for the reply. No, I had an RCD300. I thought it only needed to be coded if I had a highline display?

No, you need to code the unit as a navigation unit otherwise the car doesn't know you have nav.

You might need to reposition your antenna or get a new one.

Carsystems.pl sells them pretty cheap and they're good.

Cheers

Go into VCDS > Controller 19 - CAN Gateway > Byte 4 > Bit 6 check box for navigation. Should be from memory.

Then in Controller 37 set up options for your car as required.

or just check the Nav check box in the installation list for the gateway...

I've never had any issues with mine except when playing music in a format it doesn't like. Try copying the maps from CD to SD as that seems to improve performance.

Right, I've had the gateway coded for nav and it still resets after a couple of miles. It has been suggested that I change the gateway as its a 2005 gti but I dont seem to be getting any power drain so is it really worth it?
I will try copying to SD....if it works long enough to do it!
