Huh? You mean the car keeping the revs up to prevent stalling while cold?

I thought chokes went out in the 80s?

Can anyone remember how to bring up oil temp on the climate control display?

1. Hold down "ECON", and press the "up-vent" button (next to recirculation). Both temperature displays will read 00 or 00'0, and you can release the buttons once they do.
2. Twist the LEFT temperature knob until the display above reads 19’0.
3. Twist the FAN knob until the left temperature display reads 19’1 (like 19.1).
4. The right temperature display is now a digital speedometer! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!

--- For tach (in x100), twist the FAN knob until the left temperature display reads 19’3 (like 19.3)

--- To reset and go back to normal operation, hit the ECON button once.

These are the different settings the Climatronic can display. The numbers on the left indicate the “CHANNEL” it MUST be SET to:

• 1.0: Temp as read by sensor in middle fan speed knob.
• 1.4: Light intensity falling on same sensor.
• 4.0: Outside Temp – front bumper
• 4.1: Outside Temp – roof.
• 4.2: Outside Temp – rear bumper (inside temp?)
• 15.0: Oil Temp
• 19.0: Uncorrected Speed (Km/h)
• 19.1: Uncorrected Speed (Mp/h)
• 19.2: Coolant Temp
• 19.3: Tachometer (x100rpm)
• 19.4: Oil Pressure
• 25.0: Voltage

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Okay a bit more reading - the oil temp - no one's sure as some people think it is and some don't. Apparently, the info from the channels is the info that the climatronic needs to function but oil temp isn't one of them, so the "15.0" channel may not be for oil.

If that makes any sense.

Do you have to have a Highline to get the oil temp via aircon etc?

And would you have to go through this process everytime to start your car or does it remain until changed or until you hit ECON button?

Don't need highline. The info appears in the right-hand temperature display on the climatronic display so it's limited (just numbers).

Can't remember about whether you need to redo it everytime you start the ignition. It's been a while since I've had a fiddle round with this.

Cheers stealth  :happy2:

And more importantly, what is the warm-enough-to-rag-it temperature?

I never rag it until it is up to working temperature - i.e. 90 degrees

Thanx Dom  :happy2:

Out of curiosity is that 90ºF or 90ºC?

The car hasn't had any exercise since last Sunday so I may have to take her out and check this temp display out later.

Haven't measured it using the climatronic display but from the feel and sound of the car, two minutes after the water temp has reached optimal temperature.

Dom says it's 90º, stealth.

I tend to wait for the water temp needle to reach dead vertical and then give it a couple of minutes more and even then I rarely have occasion to GLF.

Unfortunately there's one junction near my home which is onto a fast main road and so which usually needs me booting it to get out safely. But I avoid that route if I can just because my oil would barely be warm enough.
