Seat wiring question

I'm swapping over to some R32 Recaro seats, which are replacing my cloth GTI seats. However, looking at the wiring on the Recaros, there's a problem with one of the plugs.



This yellow plug is a 3-pin (3 by 1) connection, but the equivalent on the Recaro is a 4-pin (2 by 2). I'm certain it's the air bag light, as that's now illuminated on my dash display. But also, I'm not sure my vehicle occupancy sensors still work either.

Had a quick Google, but can't seem to dig up anything regarding this issue. Is there any sort of wiring adaptors (like do I need one that taylors for heated seats and just blank off bits I don't use) or do I just need to code out, with VCDS, air bag warnings for the seats.

the yellow plug is the air bag plug the recaros don't have side airbags so you will need to do this

and cancel the light with vcds

the little 2 pin connector is the seat belt buckle sensor to tell the car if your not wearing your seat belt

I knew you'd save my bacon Si! Many thanks, I'll look into this and check my VIN number. If I take the part numbers for the seat occupancy wiring plugs, could I fabricate an extension, do you think? My driver's seat one is about 6" too short to reach the wiring loom iin the floor of my car so want to extend it without cutting wires up.

got to be blunt here, don't worry about an extension it will cost far to much, i know you don't want to cut wires but best way, i could cut them solder them tape them up with vw tape you would never know its there.

See what you're saying, and reckon your way is probably far easier and safer in the long run. At the moment, because both are disconnected and not flaggin up warning lights, it's a very low priority over air bag lights (as this is an MOT failure sadly).

On a side note, there's this connector under the passenger side seat;



I haven't a clue about it... Any ideas?

Does that go into the floor? Im sure mine had one of these either side, plus the airbag loom

that 10 way connector is all about the seat heating, under the passenger seat there is a black box, this black box controls the heating on both seats so, the 4 big cables are power in + - and power back out to the diver seat + - hence the driver seat only has 2 big cables. the other small cables 2 passenger 1 driver all report back to the heater controls under the stereo

i'm guessing you don't have seat heating in your old seats so basically tuck it up out the way and don't worry about it

so 2 other things 1 i've covered already making up the resistor plugs and getting someone with vcds will remove the airbag light

2 have you ever had the seat belt chime turned off on the instrument cluster, if so this is why your not getting the bong when you drive regardless of having the seat belts clipped in?

both the driver and passenger seats report back to the airbag module for seat belt/occupancy , i'm pretty sure though regardless of this working both airbags will still go off as its only the same as not wearing your belts like some people do, if they have a crash the airbags always still go off, so up to you really if you even want to install the seat belt/occupancy system

Makes sense about that 10-pin connection, I thought all the R32 Recaros were non-heated though..?

I've never had the occupancy system turned off, ever. If I understand what you've just said correctly, even though the Recaros have no air bags, fitting the resistor plugs allows the air bag system (as a whole) to function as normal, and leaving all other wiring disconnected doesn't effect anything? Sorry for the continual questions.

What you say is correct. The resistor fools the system into thinking the airbag is still there.

Iv had mine fitted for a while with no problems and coded the seat occupancy out too

My RECARO Pole Position, bought new, came with this resistor (from RECARO). You might want to ask a RECARO dealer is they sell the resistor.
since this is recommended by RECARO, I think it will have no effect for the other airbags.

@rex, thanks for the tips, but these Recaros are factory fitted by Volkswagen so don't think the same applies as much, but could be a good shout if all else fails.

I never had heated seats, so no loom to sell. Unless you mean that one under the seat?
