Urgent help please! Inner cv joint spinning

Urgent help please! Inner cv joint spinning

I'm replacing my outer cv boot and I don't have a stretchy boot so I need to remove the whole shaft and then whack off the outer cv joint.

Can't remove spline bolts from inner cv joint as it's free spinning.

How do I stop this?

leave the shaft in place, just remove your drive shaft hub nut and bottom ball joint, pull wheel hub to one side pulling drive shaft to the other side,  cut the outer cv boot off, and clean away excess grease, then remove the outer cv joint only, lleaving the drive shaft in place,  fit the new boot then put cv joint back on, grease up and secure the boot to shaft and joint. refitting as you go. very easy to do.

How did you remove outer cv joint while it was in place? I have all the other stuff done.

I've already cut away boot and grease

Tried hitting with a hammer but the joint is frozen on

Any thoughts?

Is there not a circlip holding the joint to the shaft?

It's a knock off job as the circlip is located inside the joint and cannot be access !!!

make sue the cv joint is as straight as poss, if it's at a angle it'll be harder to remove, then use either a copper hammer, also try and get someone to hold the drive shaft whilst you do it.

Thanks everyone. Got it there.

Just a good whack was all it needed.

Now I'm just waiting here for one of those special tools to tighten the clips around the boot!
Anyone have a DIY fix for this?

I imagine getting the spline back into the wheel is handy enough?

Just a whack with a hammer to push into place?
