@TAPPY oh nice one I'd forgotten about Stoner, I should be picking my car up on the 4th so will hopefully bring it down. Most likely we will all go and bring a couple of the cars between us.

I only got reminded today. Just checked the dates and it's 2 days before my holiday so I should be going. Hopefully see you there and see all the good work you have had done :happy2:

Cheers mate

I'll drop you a PM a few days before if I am going  :happy2:

So after the spark plug issue and suspected under fuelling I changed the fuel filter and upgraded the LPFP to one of these

http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/golfmk5/deatschwerks-dw65v-high-flow-fuel-pump-90769

Then yesterday she went on the dyno for testing to log all parameters and see if anything is wrong.

Was that pump straight fit? Or needs some job, trimming something, new clamps, or anything.. ?

I didn't do it myself I had a mechanic do it, all the reviews and he said it was pretty straight forward though. You just pull out the old pump and put the new pump into the original housing/ basket, takes a little while but is pretty easy and as far as I know everything is provided.

Some things are going on

As you can see it was pretty damn filthy in there, also it was quite gunky instead of the hard dried carbon you usually find.

Also turns out I was wrong in thinking I had the vibratechnics dogbone mount, in fact I have the subframe mount and my dogbone mount is pretty badly split.

So that will be replaced and I will have the full set of 4 vibratechnics mounts.

Crank pulley and bolt was also replaced due to rust along with the new Cam belt and cam chain.

Engine overall seems to be pretty good which I'm obviously pleased about as I had never seen it run so was always a bit of a gamble.

Wow! what a difference on those inlets. How did you get them clean??

Cheers,

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Alex at AKS did it.

I believe he starts by scraping/ brushing what he can (possibly with some sort of cleaning solution) but the main thing is he uses a walnut blaster to get them mint.

Ah right, the walnut shell blasting seems to be getting quite popular, certainly looks like it works!

Cheers,

Chris

Nice progress Dan.

Always a bit scary seeing just how much crap is deposited on the valves. Might look into this if and when I go hybrid or k04.

Cheers mate, definitely worth doing. Especially since you can do RFD/ carbon clean and uprated FPRV all at once and save some labour charges.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Still a long way off for me though, got a few jobs to sort before I swap turbos.

I imagine the hybrid off the old engine is already sold...?

So before the car went to Alex my gearbox was sticking around reverse/ 1st/ 2nd gear and never really worked right since it was fitted 5k ago. Well we found out why, here's a video of the play in the box

Also the clutch wasn't fitted 100% correctly
Although it still seems in good nic but obviously isn't great.

This is pretty great though

Bulk of the new engine fitted  :jumpmove:  :jumpmove:

Vibratechnics mounts , I will now have all 4 of them.

Still plenty of stuff to do but she's getting there.
