OEM Roof Bars
« on: September 13, 2014, 09:38:48 pm »
Was replying to another forum members post about how my roof bars bend back the rubber door seals, thought I would post some pics to see if anyone else has the same issue or is it just me ? A friend has some halfords roof bars that don't do it so might have to go buy third party bars !!

The rear is worse than the front

Not sure on how you've mounted them mate, but mine are nothing like that. Before you tighten them each side do you make sure the foot of roof bar sits flat to the inside of the door? I'm surprised if you're not getting leaks inside from that!

Last time I fitted my Thule bars, they did a bit of that too. They fit inside the door to the holes so it does make sense they would slightly move the seals.

My Thule roof bars make the door seals look like your fronts on mine.

Your rears are very severe and i would suspect there's a slight error with positioning... otherwise the error is with their design!

Rear

Front

This is the outline i get when the door is opened, but give it 10 minutes of being open they go back to shape

Hope it helps a bit. Like it was said above, I think you should check the rear is positioned correctly and that the feet are as close to flush as you can get to the door

Do you position them in between the two tiny grooves ? I tried different positions this morning with no difference, I don't understand why mine bend back so far.

Yeah the fronts can't really go wrong as they go where the holes are, the rear bar can be moved. Are the angles right on the uprights? Just wondering maybe you've got them sat too vertical and that's what is causing the seal to push out too much? If i remember right they can be adjusted...
