Headlight Leveling Switch

I was doing a bit of work on my CV and the headlight level switch snapped on the interconnecting plastic piece between the sensor and the wishbone.

This piece of plastic pivots up or down depending on the road surface to level the headlights.

It's only a piece of plastic so I can just make another one and connect it on instead of buying a whole new sensor.

My question is, can I remove this sensor and work on the plastic or will the lights stop working?

If the sensor sees a fault condition, the xenons will simply aim as low towards the ground as they possibly can, and register a fault on vagcom - I wouldn't recommend driving at night with them like this  I have and it's not wise!

You're right.

Took the sensor out and they did drop.

Managed to remove, fix and refit the sensor in 30mins so I'm delighted.

The clip just snapped so I used a washer either side to hold it together and then I applied quick steel all around the break. Good as new(ish).

You may have to clear the fault via vagcom / another suitable diagnostic tool before the headlights return to normal operation.

Nope, they ran straight away!

No problems at all so I'll wait til it's dark just to make sure
