How low did you go?
« on: September 17, 2014, 05:07:41 pm »
I'm looking at lowering my MK5 Golf GT, I was going to do coil overs but I'm not overly sure I'd be happy with the ride, I've done springs on my other cars and they have been fine, I'm just wondering how low others have gone with springs/coilovers and how your ride/daily driver has been? If you have pictures as well that would be great as I hate looking like a 4x4  :signLOL:

Eibach Sportlines: (the most comfortable I had)

H&R SuperSport: (better performance than Eibach SL)

Cut H&R SS front springs with H&R street perf. coil-over springs in the rear: (sits below 24" from the ground to the top of the arches and rips on the road as long as you can handle the rough ride)

Bilstein B8 dampers mounted in all pics.

i change the height of my car all the time depending what wheels i decide to run, iv found the lower you go the worse the ride goes but its not that bad really

ATM I'm running 17's so daily driving would be pretty poor as its limited what i can drive over and speed bumps are a no no  :signLOL:

i normally run 18's at the same height as above (10mm thread left front and back) and for me personally its fine as iv always had coilovers on my cars so am pretty used to the firmer ride

if you want to go low on coilovers and have the best ride then id suggest getting h&r ultra lows if you want to go stupidly low with comfort then get the still static 140mm h&r ultra lows

I'm using Bilstien B14 coilovers, currently sat all the way up at 30mm drop. I do plan to go lower.

Considered air ride? Cue static-vs-air debate... :P

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

I live near schools and parks so my area is full of odd-shaped speed bumps and broken roads. As a result I had to wimp out slamming mine otherwise I won't move at all!  :sad1:

Went with Eibach Pro Kits and Koni FSD Dampers, as a daily driver I find it rides spot on comfortwise and more forgiving than the OEM GT setup in my neck of the woods despite being lower than the standard GT.

There's some mighty fine MK5's out there! Based on what people are saying, and my tight budget I'm thinking springs are the better choice at the moment untill I save up some cash, 40/50mm should be enough to close the gap nicely! Really want some CH style wheels, I think that's what these are?...the shopping list grows the more I'm on here!

If you have some good miles on it...you may consider adding new dampers at the time of install of your springs in order to save some coin since it will all be dismantled. OE dampers will often fail shortly after dropping it. You should be able to do the rears yourself if inclined to...the fronts can be a bit more tricky.  :drinking:

This in mine on h&r coilovers with h&r camber top mounts. Got loads of adjustment left on the rear but none on the front due to the 25-30mm gain off the top mounts. They ride great great build quality, no noises nothing

These are for sale too just coilovers no top mounts £550
