red stuff pads - help!!
« on: September 17, 2014, 11:30:23 am »
had a right nightmare with these and would be good to hear anyone's experience too. I bought them along with EBC Ultimax discs as an upgrade as my oem brakes were on their last legs.

Bedded them in and thought would test at Brands Hatch - lasted 3 laps before the brake pedal went - no stopping power at all - returned to the pits with smoke billowing from the pads....  :surprised:

had them inspected at my local VW specialist and they are toast ...... I bought them from Euro Car parts and they are looking in to it but don't expect them to do anything... so just letting people on here know not to touch red stuff pads if you are thinking of a track day....

Welcome to hear any suggestions of what I should replace them with ?? Fast road and maybe the odd track day?

Cheers

I have yellows on mine much better when warm tbh they were already on the car when I bought it! I've always heard that reds wear down very quick regardless...I think a lot of ppl use green always depends on how u want use the really!

I also use EBC Ultimax brake discs(USR1386) and EBC Redstuff brake pads(DP31945C and DP31518C) on my Audi TT and Im not happy with them.
I dont do track days, but sometime I fast drive on roads(under limits) and make few hard brakes I lose my brakes(brake power is a lot of less than normal) I also fell difference on my brake pedal... Same is happen on my old car(Fiat Stilo) and I will not buy them again...

I also have redstuff pads. Installed them a couple of months ago with EBC's turbo grooves. Did a track day couple of weeks ago and managed to do 1 lap. After that they were completely gone, pedal soft and no braking power. Took it to my local dealer and they said that the pads and discs are good, but there was air in the system. They took the air out, but the pedal still feels soft (thinking it might be the master cylinder leaking). Just ordered better brake lines and brake fluid. Hope it helps.
