Cam Chain, Tensioner & Adjuster DIY Attempt

made a bit more progress.

Aligned mark on camshaft sprocket with mark on toothed belt cover. Even this was a pita cant even see the mark on toothed belt cover so had to use my phone.



Must have been nearly on the money as cam locking tool slid into place.

So right at the last hurdle dazza fuc*s it.



The bolt holding the adjustor totally rounded off. And yes i did use 10mm Polydrive Bit.

Options please.

Don't say take it to a proper mechanic i am too stubborn.

Is there room to knock an oversized torx bit into it?

I tried a couple of times with different bits. Problem is it well tight. Going to get the impact wrench on it tomorrow.

I should have used the impact straight off it probably would have got it out. But i was worried it would strip the bolt.

What about something like this do they work?

Looks like you will have to drill the head off the bolt imo.  You need the full grip of the ribe to get them undone.

The main issue is that the laser cam holding tool isn't strong enough to hold the cam steady.  If they had thought about it more, then they would have just copied the genuine tool rather than get the local pre school to make it.

The only ribe bit that I've found that fits the bolt perfectly is the genuine one.

As soon as the head comes off the bolt, then the thread that is left will just unscrew by hand.  The pressure is held in the head of the bolt.

Hopefully will get the head off the bolt soon. Need to find a slightly bigger drill bit easier said than done over here.

Decided i will replace the adjuster as well. Trying to guarantee my success.

Thanks for the support mate. Prior to this car the most i ever did was fit a new battery. After talking to the local dealers and garages who had no idea about most things i was asking i decided to do it myself. I'm in Spain most people don't look after their cars so when you do need work its an absolute fortune.
Luckily this forum and some others pointed me in the right direction.
Did a basic service first along with cam follower and dv valve then the DSG, couple of cv boots, brake discs pads and fluid and i ended up here.

So putting my little DIY on hold for a couple of days the sh*tty drill bits i've found locally cannot cut it. Treated myself to a set of Cobalt Drill Bits should make my life a little easier and i'm sure i will need them a lot in the future.

While i'm waiting a couple of things i've noticed/broke.

Firstly Plugs reuse or replace?




Coil pack clip can i change just the clip part? I broke it



Protective cover on wire going to coil pack harness disintegrated!



Should i try and re-protect this?

@fab5freddy has some coilpacks for sale, good price too. Hope that solves one issue.
