@fab5freddy has some coilpacks for sale, good price too. Hope that solves one issue.
The coil pack is fine its the clip on the harness i broke. I can still get it on and off but i have ocd and this will really piss me off.

Breaking your OCD = fail. If it clips on securely then all good but if the connection is loose I'd assume misfires will manifest themselves. I take it some duct tape isn't on the cards due to OCD?

Duct tape not an option. I only have OCD when it comes to code or cars. Sorry not cars you should see my other car its held together with duct tape. My kids ask me all the time why don't I clean our other car.

So putting my little DIY on hold for a couple of days the sh*tty drill bits i've found locally cannot cut it. Treated myself to a set of Cobalt Drill Bits should make my life a little easier and i'm sure i will need them a lot in the future.

While i'm waiting a couple of things i've noticed/broke.

Firstly Plugs reuse or replace?




Coil pack clip can i change just the clip part? I broke it :sad1:



Protective cover on wire going to coil pack harness disintegrated!



Should i try and re-protect this?

Also there was a some oil on the side of the coil packs i suppose this would be from the valve cover gasket as some of the bolts were very loose.

Item 17 is the connector block part number 4B0 973 724 - £8.22 full retail inc vat

That should sort the coil pack connection out but would need more of your vehicle details to confirm 100%.
Also item 4 part number 06F 971 824 C guide cable £9.66 full retail inc vat
I think that's what you mean by the insulation.

Sorry for yet another post. Anyone know when the rev A cams got replaced? If i'm not mistaken my 05 AXX engine has a rev b cam?? If it is a rev b cam how easy is it to change the cam lobe?

Didn't really feel like posting but thought i should share good or bad.  :sad1:

New drill bits arrived. Went straight in with 12.5mm. Could see one side of bolt had cracked so finished up with 13mm.

Hit cam slightly don't know if this was today or when i lost my cool with the sh*tty drill bits the other day. Bolt stub came out easy. Have no idea if cam is ok to continue?

Coming back to the cam lobe now. Cleaned everything up making sure i got rid of any metal shavings left over from the drilling session.

The cam lobe looks a bit better. I can feel some of the marks but cannot really catch them with my nail anymore.

Also added a picture of the cam follower @ 2000 kms

Dazza, did you manage to find your inlet cam part number? I'm guessing you wanted to know this with a view to fitting the autotech hpfp internals yeah?
Apparently you can check the part number by looking to see what is etched in the cam between the lobes for 2 and 3 cylinders, perfect while you have the cover off. Any letter from b onwards is considered hard enough to play with the autotech upgrade.

So some goodies arrived today.
Got the new adjustor, chain and tensioner installed sorry for the sh*t pic its been a long day.
Any way to check the timing before i start reasembly? @vRSAlex

I decided to change the coil pack clip while i was there expecting it to be easy. @bigmig95 is the pin u sent me for the coil clip? If so my pins are different see attached pic.

Thanks again guys for all your help.

Also any pointers for getting her put back together anything need a spot of oil etc?

@dazza   Don't worry too much mate, just a random spare pin that also fits in the housing as well on other VAG applications.  Just sent it so you could see how the prongs are you need to push in to release each pin from the connector housing.  Apologies if it caused any confusion.
