De-Cat Exhaust mod on GTi Edition 30
« on: October 25, 2014, 06:01:55 pm »
 Hi all.. this is my first post on the golf mk5 gti forum..

I have a Vw Golf GTi mk5 Edition 30 with the following modifications..

* Audi S3 front mount intercooler
* k04 hybrid turbo
* stage 3 remap
* Autotech fuel pump
* RS4 fuel valve

I want to keep looking as stock possible, as it is still on standard ride height, standard edition 30 rims, the exhaust etc etc..

At the moment it is still has the stock exhaust on it at the moment... and looking to get a decat section put on it.

I know the GTi has 2 cats, one straight after the turbo elbow and after the flexi joint, in which it is causing exhaust gas restricions.

My question is... after the cats.. is the exhaust still restrictive all the way to the tail pipes?? although the golf edition 30 exhaust is measuring 2.75 inch on the bends and into the rear silencer. Can I get away using the decat section of the exhaust without ruining the turbo or would it be advisable the get a complete turbo back exhaust???  :scared:

Yes on a K04 or bigger the cat back is a restriction. The downpipe is much worse though!

I'm doing similar to you so will be going down the route of Downpipe & Sports cat mated to my standard cat-back.

A complete turbo back exhaust is the best way to go - maybe a BCS exhaust with some OEM-style tips?

As I am not sure if after the cat back with the first silencer and the rear silencer is restrictive or not.  But if you are saying it is possibly it down that route to begin with.

I don't know where the restriction is TBH. The twin exit Cupras are worse though  :sad1:
