BP Ultimate vs Shell vPower - Performance differences noticed?
« on: September 29, 2014, 09:55:54 am »
Anyone noticed any performance hits by moving from Shell VPower to BP Ultimate?

Also, the car is Rtec Stage 1 mapped on vPower, this shouldn't affect anything should it?

Reason I ask is, we've just moved to deepest rural Hampshire and there hundreds of BP garages all over the place which would save me having to drive round the houses to get to the nearest Shell.

Iirc BP Ultimate is only 97RON (is round my way) and shell is 99 Ron. I use Tesco momentum as that's 99Ron

Tesco Momentum here too, used to use Optimax / vPower but since Tesco opened here I can't tell the difference between the two... Only in the cost.

Never liked BP ultimate on tuned cars.

Theres more to fuel than just the RON.

V-Power is better in terms of resistance to knock (when logging CFs)

Your car is mapped to higher octane so the ECU will be holding back the power (timing pull).

Long term that won't be good for your car so aim to run on 99RON wherever you can

Why not fire an email to R-Tech and ask them if they think Tesco Momentum will suffice? Or runs some logs with VCDS to check for yourself.

Mad isn't it, the 2006 Gallardo can pull ~500 brake on 95 RON.

Never had an issue with momentum, but would love to see if a tuner thinks otherwise.

Momentum is just as good as V-Power, some tuners actually prefer it. I like it coz its cheaper

My car is mapped by Rtech and was mapped on Vpower. Works fuel account is with BP… basically free fuel on BP or fuel the car myself on VPower. There is a difference between the two fuels… Vpower is better, performs better on Economy and also pulls harder at the top, feels crisper. BP feels a little flat after using Vpower.

3xBP and 3xVpower is how i do it.

I filled up today using Tesco Momentum 99 - so far I have found that the mpg I get on the same journey is better with M99 than with Shell Nitro.

Will test 95 RON on the next tank I think.
