Led Light Tips - Internal Car Lights
« on: September 27, 2014, 06:37:13 pm »
I got one of those packs of led lights for the cat interior.

Any recommendations before I install?

Do I remove fuse number 15 before I start and then reinstall after?

Is it handy enough and fairly self explanatory getting to and removing the old lights in all areas including reg lights?

No need to remove a fuse. This seems to be recommended for the footwell & glovebox lights, but if you unplug the units before replacing bulbs it'll be ok.

If you fit a bulb and it doesn't work, rotate it 180 degrees to reverse the polarity and it'll work.

Don't use a big screwdriver to remove trims.

There is a guide on youtube I think.

Which bulb type are in the footwells? 501s?

I got one of those full kits from aliexpress.

Have to say I'm impressed with their packing. Each bulb or bulb set is individually packed with a sticker on the front saying what are they're for.

Is the footwell not the same as the glovebox light? I don't actually know what name as the lights in my pack don't state.

My only problem is that they seem to flicker with movement.

Take for example when I open the vanity mirror. The light turns on immediately but as you keep opening the mirror case the vibrations seem to shake the bulb and cause it to flicker.

I tried tightening the holder too with no joy.

Any thoughts?

My leds are flickering now so replacing them, usually find they are on their way out when they do.

Mine are brand new only installed and are flickering when I move the are around them.

That's not to say they're on the their way out no?

Make sure the bulb is nice and snug in the metal holder, I had to bend my slightly.

I would also remove the fuse as I blew mine.. Oops.

Other than that it's pretty plain sailing, just be gentle with the clips!

I've installed all of my lights now and I'm having a bit of trouble.

The licence plate and footwell lights are flickering on and off around 6 times when I turn the lights on.

Seems to happen only after I turn car on and off though.

Anyone any thoughts?

I imagine these so called "error free" bulbs are a lie and there's nothing I can do bar install resistors or something.

The reason your bulbs are flickering is because of the CANBUS system. It's pulsing is perfectly normal for a few seconds when you turn the ignition on.
It's happens to most cars you fit LED devices to.
Happened to both my MK5s and also to my Scirocco and also to my friends Octavia and also my mates BMW E90 3 series.

Can this be fixed?

Do I just have to deal with flickering LEDs then?

How come it's only the footwell and the Reg though?
