Speeding
« on: October 04, 2014, 09:27:29 am »
Caught doing 54 in a 30 zone last night, as bad as it sounds it was an empty 4 lane going into 5 lane road at midnight, but obviously speed limit stays the same.

What do we think, 3 points and £100 fine or am I in for more cause it was so far over the limit?

My friend got caught doing 57 in a 30 and got 3 points and £60 fine!
Personally think there is no excuse to be speeding in built up area ever, i love my cars and love to give it a blast in occasionally but in 12 years of driving i believe 30 is 30 for a reason!
Every morning i drive down a 2 mile long steep hill which is a 30mph area and gauranteed  every day i have idiots sat right on my rear bumper or overtaking me because im doing the speed limit
Idiots simple as that

Needless to say i laughed when my mate got points for 57mph and said id have thrown the book at you

In my defence, it was far from a built up area, it was a four lane carrigeway going into 5 leading into Liverpool city centre.

Hopefully they wont be too harsh on you mate!
May even be lucky and get offered the speed awareness course and small fine

I think you'll get a SP30 on your licence and a fine.
Because of your speed excess, I don't think you'll be offered the alternative speed awareness course.
Without traction power is nothing!

I agree, don't think am getting offered the speed awareness purely because it was so much over! Fine and 3 is the best I can hope for!

Of all the points I've accrued over the years (they seem to just get replenished :rolleye:), I've never once been offered a speed awareness course, my Bro has had three of them.

Hasn't the fine gone up to a £100 now?

Jammy git, that's well into Sumons to court territory there, more than double the speed limit!!

My last Speed Awareness course was for a 37 in a 30... coming off a dual carriageway on to a 2-lane in a "built-up but quiet" area, i.e., industrial units / swimming pool /  out-of-town shops... well past midnight as I was coming home from band practise, and I ended up on the course with tools who were hurtling past schools at 60mph and laughing about it... in all honesty I paid attention and it did make me a better driver as far as "projecting ahead" while driving, and glad I did it.

54 in 30? 3 points and a £60 fine I would wager, but don't rule out SAC.

How did she know?

UK driving license holders are given penalty points for driving offences. The more serious the offence, the more points are given. When the number of points reaches 12 then (usually) a ban is enforced. Speeding generally gets you a fine and 3 points, so caught speeding 4 times and you get 12 points which means a ban.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.
