MK6 emblem mech on MK5
« on: October 20, 2014, 11:33:04 am »
I've picked up a MK6 emblem with mechanism, I'm assuming it's just plug an play for my MK5 mechanism and emblem that has whiteworm?

Also does anyone have a link to a YT guide on removing the boot door trim to fit it?

Yeap, plug and play. Wiring loom can be a stretch as the connector is on the tuther side but no biggy. As for removing the trim........remove the 2 screws inside the grab handle areas and pull from the bottom and work your way around the trim, it REALLY does take some effort.

Awesome.

Is the boot trim held on by the metal clips VW seem to like or is there plastic that clips onto the metal?

Would picking up a trim removal tool be a good idea to save destroying the plastic with a flatblade?

Trim is held in place via about a dozen metal clips and is also held by a couple of plastic bits (can't explain them). No trim removal tool will help for this one, its brut force i am afraid, get your hands under a bottom corner where the plastic is strongest and pull.

Good luck, I've removed my a fair few times but the last time i failed. Reply #267.......

This sounds like it's going to be um fun... :scared:

Where are the plastic bits you're on about located on the trim as I assume they're the main clips then all the metal ones are secondary?

After looking at the clip locations on the bay (checking prices now in case I break it) can't you just reach in through the lamp access holes and squeeze the metal clips while pulling on the trim?

Or am I missing something here :stupid:

Yup that's exactly how I did it in the end, I've taken some pics of the process I'll post up at some point :)

I only "slightly" damaged the rear trim...I swear the glue it on there.... :surprised:
