Thanks. Yes I've heard of him.  He actually carried out an inspection on the car I'm buying for me. Might get the TB done with VW as its the same price as him and get the Cam follower done with George. CAM follower is a totally separate job I take it and doesn't need to be done at the same time as TB?

Yes completely separate. It's also a DIY. How are your mechanical skills?

I'd do it myself only doing these things in Winter without a closed garage is hell with the cold fingers and random rainfall!

Can also recommend George. He's done plenty of work on my Lupo GTi and has also worked on my MK5 GTi previously. Knows his stuff and is very reasonable price wise.

New Update - Rear Tailgate Handle

After I replaced my corroded slow close boot badge with the mk4 3d cover I just didn't like it so I bought a mk6 mechanism and replaced the whole lot.

Have to say this one looks much better. The wiring on the inside is tight as the plug is on the wrong side but making a few careful cuts and you can loosed it up just enough!

I suppose it's whatever coding VW have done. They probably feel that leaking boost is not a safety concern and therefore no dash lights would come up.

You should* get a readout after a VCDS scan which shows a low boost error code (or maybe it's boost leak) so I suppose that's the only solution they've put in! If you have no proof of your one being changed then it's something I'd do 100%

I have a brand new Rev G one here if you want? Along with the tools to do it. Depending on how crusty the bolts are, it could be done in 1 - 2 hours.

Update June 2016

With the hotter summer months I've now started back using AC. Noticed it wasn't working well so I VCDS scanned and found the error code P00819 relating to a failed G65 sensor - Part Number  1K0-959-126-A

To change this sensor isn't much work at all if you have a 17mm crows foot spanner and suitable extension bar:


The sensor is at the front of the engine facing just slightly below the alternator


A quick change of this and a gas top up then I'm good to go.

Update June 2016

One of my reg light bulbs went so rather than replace the standard light with an LED. I replaced the entire light unit with the Mk6 LED unit.
Part number - 1K8943021C
Very easy to do, just release screw and pop the old one out.

I'd say the best upgrade to do to our license place lights is fitting the mk6 LED full units: 1K8943021C.





They look great and don't give any bulb out error in the instrument cluster of our mk5s.
