Good stuff Luke!!

I never thought of doing it that way.

I have a version C on my car and was thinking about replacing it with an R. But because it seems to be working fine I couldn't really justify swapping it out :ashamed:

I'm going K04 in the next while and so maybe I'll do exactly as you've done and fit the R and keep the C for spares :happy2:

What revision was the one you removed?

And if you don't mind me asking what did the revision R cost you in the end??
Did you get it from VW Ireland or online?

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave,

I actually picked it up from a seller on here as he blanked his off so I got it for €55.

My old one was a Rev C and still working fine.

I've noticed my breather pipe might need to be changed due to some internal coking p.no. 06F 103 235 but it looks like the 2005 model breather pipe requires no check valve and is just plastic whereas the new ones have a check valve with stainless steel piping. It's €40 for a 9" length so I'm holding off for now to see if I can find an older version.

Excellent work Luke :happy2:

It's amazing how often the poxy door modules fail

Looks like you made quick work of the door panel on/off. Like Mr Miagy  :happy2:

It's a pity some of the parts prices are so daft

Still,,, much better than Renault :happy2:

Good luck with the pipe hunt :happy2:

It's not the first time, I recently did the same job on another golf that was in a collision which bent the support frame jamming the window in the open position!

Hours work now on and off with plenty of cursing of course  :signLOL:

I found the breather pipe. €13 all in so I'll pick it up shortly!

Re: Luke's GTI Build Thread - Someone Hit My Car!!

So I parked up for a stroll on the beach and when I came back to the car I see a nice bend in the door.

As you can see the bend is a bit of an eye sore.

Out with some masking tape to line up the repair area, a rubber ended G-clamp so I don't do any damage, a hammer (cushioned with a rubber bung) and finally some microfibre cloths and polish when everything is done!

I removed the plastic trim on the inside of the door so I had just bare meal to squeeze. I taped off the area in question and gently forced the G-Clamp closed until it lined up. Pretty much got it after the first attempt but went back two more times to make 100% sure. Fortunately there was no paintwork damage, cracking or bending so I removed the tape and voila!

Nicely done! I'd be fuming if it happened to my car as I don't have your repairing skills. :fighting:

Honestly @Shoduchi I didn't know what I was doing, I saw a bend in the metal in an easy place to get at and said why not give it a go! 20 mins work to achieve this result so I'm happy!

That's an awesome repair :happy2: :happy2:

It's a long story, the car parked to my side opened their door and the bottom corner of their door hit the bottom corner of mine.

By the time I got back though it was a different car parked in it's place so there was nothing I could do!

29/09/2016 Installation of GFB DV+

A quick job since I already wrote a how to on the installation of a DV - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=post;msg=893078;topic=87824.0

Step 1 - Wash car and apply 2 coats of autoglym super HD Wax

Step 2 - Hoover and dust internals

Step 3 - Fit GFB DV+ to existing solenoid. Two second job but don't forget to use 5W-30 to oil up the parts when assembling!

Step 4 - Photograph final assembled unit so people know you mean business

Step 5 - Follow how to guide - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=post;msg=893078;topic=87824.0

nah they still have it and it won't be back anytime soon from what I can see as these claims companies thrive on taking the wizz and keeping the car in storage for as long as possible and how they make part of their money.
