Door warning lights
« on: October 11, 2014, 07:14:34 pm »
I've just had delivery of some door warning lights for my 3dr GTI from Bold-Sport and from looking at a video tutorial i expected it to be like copy and paste but.. it wasn't.. Over in America there's seem to use different pins or maybe the video is using a different module or something.. Anyhoo..

In the video below it shows red wire into pin 18 and brown into 19 except on mine, 19 is already in use so is there another ground i could use or is it a matter of splicing into something to get a ground?

I've had a look on my-gti.com as thats what people seem to have used when doing theirs but i'll be honest, i just don't know what I'm looking at on there as its all words and numbers and I'm more of a few words and more pictures type of guy haha.

Not sure if i'm right or wrong here but if i can't use pin 19 as the ground am i right in thinking i can use pin 2 as the ground from looking at this? and just leaving the red wire in pin 18

Plus.. me being me i totally forgot to take a note of what controller mine is so if it will help you's help me, i will have another look tomorrow  then update the thread :happy2:

Appreciate any help anyone can offer :happy2:

Thanks a lot guys, i think i have it sussed, I'll need to get a pin removal tool to remove the pin from 18 to 1 now then i can put the brown wire in pin 2 and i think thats correct and I'm sure i'll have a gen 1/2 connector i believe with mine being an early 2005 car.

Thanks chaps :happy2:

One last question, do I need a pin removal tool at all to remove the cables as at the moment I've got the red cable in pin slot 18 when I think it needs swapping to 1 and don't want to just yank it out in case I damage the pin connector.

If so, where can I get one from? Or would a sewing needle or something like do the job?

Cheers,
Carl.

:scared:  Don't yank it, use a paper clip if you don't have the tool  :happy2:

If you look closely at the photos in my original posted link you'll see there're using a set of needle pliers on one of the connectors which are a single barb type and you don't need a special tool for there removal!
That's not the 32 pin connector your working on but uses the same terminals.
